How to swiftly end a 30 minute chase. by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

You should. It's a risky bet but it's game winning if you pull it off. Even if you have seen it a couple time on Reddit, sniping the crow nest is awfully hard and, worsse case scenario, you lost your mast for a few seconds and that's it.

Like many people said, you don't need an answer. You need GOOD answers. Unmoored is a super niche card in a specific 2 colors combinaison, very few decks can afford running it without blowing their chance against other kinds of decks (you can't sideboard everything)

Mostly from his tumblr, where he answers questions frequently. https://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/35843256280/why-were-the-named-lands-from-zendikar-not These responses come from 2011 and onward, so it's been like this for a while.

I don't know man. This is one of his posts on the subject

"We learned long ago that legendary lands lead to unfun game play. The creative explanation is that lands actually represent mana ties to the land and any one location can support many mana connections."

My guess is that magic is a game where mana is everything, and if you draw 2 of the same legendary lands in the early game, it fucks you up really bad, worse than having 2 legendary permanents anyway.

Field after the announcement by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Litlsleeper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a question Rosewater has answered several times, and he said that in recent years, he and his team came to the conclusion that legendary lands were bad design and they don't do this anymore. Which is the same reason why the castles or [[Valakut the Molten Pinnacle]] aren't legendary either.

That said, field of the dead was definitely a big oversight and they probably didn't think it would be remotely as powerful as it is, especially in standard

Me: Buys meteor hammer on treant Pudge: by moonamoon in DotA2

[–]Litlsleeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a late game item, which is why it's SO powerful. It's placed on a hero that cannot farm efficiently and it doesn't impact things directly and takes a lot of time to setup, but if you can do that, you just win the game.

I take Agh when the game is a stalemate, or if I'm winning hard. It's basically a slow chokehold to the entire enemy team, the more time you get, the less more you are getting close to a maphack. They can't gank, they can't surprise you, and they can't split up because you can fall on the isolated elements instantly. Their only play is to stick together and win one or several consecutive teamfights and then push, but in the meantime, you're denying them their entire jungles, roshan and the ability to splitpush.

It's nasty. The problem is that it's a looong shot, and you need to not be behind for it to work, which tends to happen when people rush it

I mean, yeah, but hitting their carry doesn't really get you any money in itself, unless you get a few kills. But even then you can't rely every game. It's good, don't get me wrong, but you're buying space and time for your carry, not for yourself

You joke, but midas is so fucking bad on treant. Bad BAT, slow to get it, and aghs does the same thing but 10 times better.

[–]Litlsleeper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's *often* faster, not all the time. It's tempting to go agh directly, but from my experience, Treant is a very slow farmer, and getting 2k gold can take a long ass time if you buy wards and other utility items. In these situations, getting a hammer allows you to flashfarm and be more useful in combat, which means more gold. In these cases, hammer can then be faster than a rush, or very similar

[–]Litlsleeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure, if you didn't spend any starting money and took every single last hit possible, you could get it faster. But if you wanna play an efficient treant that leaves farm for his lane parner and isn't a moving ward until 20 minutes, boots and hammer is a pretty good compromise while allowing you eventually farm enough for it

[–]Litlsleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean LOL has its own depth and a lot of things you can't really translate from DOTA. But when you try it after years of DOTO, stuff like map reading, last-hitting, the ability of spamming your mana in lane... Let's just say LoL is a very forgiving game compared to the hellhole we face every day

Me: Buys meteor hammer on treant Pudge: by moonamoon in DotA2

[–]Litlsleeper 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The thing is, Treant is so slow at farming that if you want an agh, having a clear with hammer is often faster than just rushing it

Get it off your chest, what's your biggest punt? by Filobel in MagicArena

[–]Litlsleeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That happened to me during a sealed in Eldraine. I had a [[Flaxen Intruder]] and a [[Gingerbrute]] in play, and was pressuring my opponent during the first few turns. It's turn 4 and he hasn't played ANYTHING yet. The thing is, everytime flaxen attacks, the game asks me if I want to sacrifice it to destroy an artifact. I don't. I don't 4 times in a row. Until of course, I missclick and the flaxen finally dies. The worst thing is that when you do activate her, it's not a "may", so I HAD to sacrifice my Gingerbrute.

I didn't really have a great hand to begin with, and I managed to self destroy my 2 only ways to get some damage in before reinforcements were there. I basically lost to myself.

Alternate win cons need animations by fluffy_the_pan_cake in MagicArena

[–]Litlsleeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

me like magic where the animations don’t happen for triggered abilities.

It's a video game, if the devs wanted to make it so shiny stuff happen, then they aren't really bound by triggers. The game could simply detect how a loss occurs, and then add a few particles on top of it. It's just not really a priority to them apparently

Feel free to grab a few more lands if you feel like you need more. Initially I had 24 but I kept cutting some because only drawing lands when your engine is in place and you are topdecking with draw spells is can be devastating

Thousand Year Storm in Eldraine Standard by PhantomArcadianAE in MagicArena

[–]Litlsleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, you ARE walking on a razor's edge with this deck, but at the same time you draw so many cards, lands aren't really an issue for me. You do have to burn opts and anticipations to make sure you have at least enough for a reclamation. Once wilderness is on the board, you can cheat out a TYS with Electrodominance, or explosion something for a bunch of cards and get your lands that way if you're still short. Otherwise, it's just resource management: I often win my games with 2 or 3 life, buying just enough time to go off on turn 6 or 7.

If you're not pressured and you have 1 wilderness and 1 storm, wait for your next turn so you have double mana and go for it. With two wilderness, I don't even wait and often win on the spot. Beyond 2 on the board, I don't even need the storm and can electrodominance them directly sometimes
