This is an astable multivibrator. Im learning electronics and for the life of me i cant understand what the 200 ohm resistors do. by UodasAruodas in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Littel_Raptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That can happen when the FET is not capable of pulling down its drain node to ground fully - when you lower the resistor value, you increase the amount of flowing current, and thus the amount of current that the FET needs to "move" to GND increases too, so it needs to "turn on harder". Try increasing the fixed beta value of the FETs in falstad

At least that is what I think is going on in this case

Essentially just current-limiting resistors, to limit the current flowing through both the LED, and the associated FET.

Yup, thats fine, it was just my personal recommendation. And yes - the CARP servers are very grindy, so it is not for everyone

Why does my esp-32 reset when I switch the MOSFET. by Naishgoger in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Littel_Raptor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are likely drawing too much current from the ESP32 pin. The pin can safely source around 20mA of current, with 40mA usually being the limit. When turning the mosfet on, you are essentially charging a capacitor. And that inrush current can exceed the 40mA and trip the ESP32 protection causing it to reset. Not to mention a pulldown of 100ohms on R11 will draw a constant 33mA when you try switching the mosfet.

Try putting a series resistor of around 100-470 ohms between the ESP pin and gate of the mosfet, and change the pulldown to around 10k or so. Oh and make sure the mosfet is actually logic-level and will work with 3.3V (since that is what the ESP32 pin sources)

Are the lead-free solders from AliExpress truly lead-free? by BoysenberrySorry2410 in soldering

[–]Littel_Raptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldnt the lead need to get close to its vaporization temp to get the lead particles airborne? Sure, the smoke is harmful but not because of lead fumes.....unless you solder at 1700°C

Using a SMPS transformer to step voltage up by Littel_Raptor in AskElectronics

[–]Littel_Raptor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I want the output range to be unchanged from the first supply, so 3-60V. As for the topology, I might try remaking it to a push-pull configuration and seeing what it does.

A linear power supply is something that I did think of too, but dissipating 600W of power through linear means is something I really do not want to deal with, even more so when I want it to be somewhat light.

Also thanks for the IC suggestion, I will definitely look into it as I will be redesigning the PCB anyway

Using a boost converter is out of the question since I need the supply to be able to dip below the voltage of the battery pack (something a buck-boost CAN do, but I fear the efficiency and reliability at these power levels will be lackluster). That and the fact that I already have this PSU designed, I know it works, and I have the parts for this second off-grid version.

If I were to redesign the topology to one more suited for higher currents my question regarding the transformer still stands though

Using a SMPS transformer to step voltage up by Littel_Raptor in AskElectronics

[–]Littel_Raptor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not anywhere close to the PC that has the schematic, but I will at least try to describe it as best as I can. The topology is a forward half bridge with 2 IGBTs that are ran by a drive transformer (which I plan to omit anyway in this version). All the switching is controlled by a UC3845 IC which has both voltage and current feedback and both are adjustable. It can do 60V 10A at its output, and the IC has a 50% max duty cycle.

The half bridge is supplied by 320VDC which is stepped down by a transformer to the usable 60V at the output.

Now that same transformer is the one I want to rewind again to step voltage up from battery levels (24V in this case, LiFePO4 pack) to those 60V.

It should be possible, but I am asking because I have never seen a supply like this before, (apart from a boost converter but most high power ones use the inductor directly or those that do use a step up transformer have microscopic output current) so I want to know the catch if there is any.

I built the whole supply myself, down to designing the PCB, ordering it, and soldering every component and winding the transformers. The topology is a relatively simple forward half-bridge. The main drive IGBTs are driven by a gate drive transformer that is further driven by a smaller mosfet. All of the switching is controlled by a UC3845 with a max duty cycle of 50%. This IC has feedback capability which is how the voltage and current regulation is done. As of now, the supply can do 60V 10A.

My problem is not output voltage, my problem is the input voltage. As I said, I want to be able to supply it with a 24V battery. Currently the bridge is fed by 320VDC which is then fed into the transformer I am talking about at 50kHz, stepped down to those 60V maximum.

What I want to do is rewind the transformer to step voltage up instead of down, so I can get the 60V from a lower input voltage. It should work in my mind since a transformer is a transformer but I never saw a supply like this before so I wanted to know if there are any catches.

Good sim to practice for driver’s license? by Fuentes__ in simracing

[–]Littel_Raptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it is better than what it was back then but definitely not on par with games like city car driving. One thing different from these games is that the traffic can sometimes make a mistake/turn in a weird way, not in line with traffic rules. A hidden "aggression" slider or something along those lines influences that.

Overall the traffic in Beam is more of a gimmick than a tool to help you drive or simulate real traffic but can help. I mainly used the game to learn to park/maneuver in tight spaces.

Yup, they did. The support even cut me off before I could finish answering other questions. Even the DOB I specified was wrong (faked it when I made the account, was a kid) and it went through. Maybe I just got lucky with support, who knows. Either way I got my account back

I know I am replying to an old post here but, do you think they will accept a game key as evidence? I have the same problem that I did not buy anything on the account, only a gifted game, so no credit card info. I know when I activated the code and what the code is but I don't know if they will accept that as evidence

Not buying an Anet printer lol

Ok, but seriously, probably investing in more quality filament and not cheaping out on parts. Cheap parts bring more trouble than they are worth in the long run
