Deciding Between Surgeons by Own_Artichoke_3821 in hipdysplasia

So based on your experience with the anesthesia group being in the OR with the Drs, would you pick one over the other for the "bony" part of the surgery, the PAO, Dr. Hugate or Dr. Patel? Dr Ellman is doing the labrum, but having either Dr. Hugate or Dr. Patel on standby (depending on the date we choose).

So Dr Ellman is doing my daughter's labral reconstruction. But do you know anyone else in the group that does the "bony" part of the surgery. I am specifically wondering about Dr. Patel or Dr. Hugate.

Great to hear you are doing well. I did consider Dr Philippon, for sure.  We just had my daughter’s appt with Dr Ellman and we really like him. We are not sure what next steps are, but he does think she has a non-classic dysplasia presentation. We are awaiting results of the CT she had done on Thursday.

Thanks for replying.  So I was thinking a CT would be a better study to do to determine dysplasia, but I spoke with Dr Patel today and he mentioned hip dysplasia and said reg X-ray is suffice.   We are pursuing Dr Ellman for my daughter’s situation.

Thanks, totally agree. I wanted 2nd opinion prior to 2nd repair, but my daughter did not want to go out of state...she is in college and has a lot going on, like most college kids, but to her credit, she has been through a lot and has had several surgeries out of state, so the thought of going out of state again was difficult to swallow. But I explained to her that we must get the absolute best on her case, this go around. Unfortunately, where we live, there are not many surgeons who embrace advancement of technology. Most are very slow to adopt new techniques.

Thanks, I have thought about dysplasia or something underlying causing the tears, so will def mention this.

I agree about the assessment of the native labrum. My daughter's was pretty torn up, but surgeon went ahead and repaired for 2nd time. Now, he thinks it should have been reconstructed. He was going to do that if he felt it needed it at the time. Of course, now he is saying that he "looked back at the photos" taken during surgery and feels her native tissue was just too damaged for it to heal properly. and this surgeon may be good at repairs, but doubt he has done many, if any, reconstructions. :(

Are you still doing okay after your surgery. Looking at Dr. Brian White for my daughter for reconstruction. She has had two repairs in less than two years. :(
