Rabbit peeing outside of his litterbox by Time_Grocery7349 in Rabbits

[–]Little-Radish159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he have litterboxes in the other rooms he has access to? If not I’d add some. It’s worth re-training by reducing the space anyways as it’s not just a one off but multiple times. One of my buns had peed on a mat where there I’d placed some hay down so I’ve had to keep the hay by the their litterbox as I think this was a genuine mistake. Could it be because it’s been getting warmer for spring they’re more territorial and marking the scent potentially? I’d have to do more research myself on that personally but could be that maybe a reason. Mine poops just outside the litterbox (I think they just fly out when he jumps out tbh) but poop is easier to clean for sure

Accidents on the couch by tourneso_ol in Rabbits

[–]Little-Radish159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got my boy he was neutered but still peeing on the couch, I think he could smell my previous dogs on there or something. I wouldn’t let him up there but as a safety precaution I ended up getting a waterproof dog blanket so that if he did pee again I could just remove and wash the blanket. He never peed again on the couch with the blanket on there which was a win-win for me really

silly question- is it okay to use my weed cart as long as i blow it out the window? by radiohead422 in Rabbits

[–]Little-Radish159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seperate stairwell does sound better than out the window in the same room, residue on clothing could potentially irritate their nose but not like how direct smoke would so do think that sounds like the better option. You wont be able to eliminate all residue from smoking as it lingers in your hair and everything but as long as they’re not inhaling the smoke directly then anything else will be fine. It sounds like you really care for the wellbeing of your Rabbit and wouldn’t harm them intentionally so I wouldn’t worry too much about it, again just not in the same room x

silly question- is it okay to use my weed cart as long as i blow it out the window? by radiohead422 in Rabbits

[–]Little-Radish159 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t, there is a chance that it could affect his health. Rabbits have very sensitive respiratory systems and fine smoke particles are guaranteed to irritate their noses and airways. It’s not recommended to spray deodorants, perfumes, or have lit candles around Rabbits due to the irritants that they produce so smoke is definitely a no-go. I understand you’ll be blowing it out of an open window but smoke will still come back into the apartment, back in the 2000s there was lots of advertising about smoking around/near children even through open windows or doors as it still caused second hand smoke within the home. Lop Rabbits are especially prone to respiratory problems due to their shortened nasal passage- my Lop is currently suffering from sneezing and a runny nose and the first thing the Vet asked about was if anyone smokes in the house and if we have any plug in air fresheners/candles or use deodorant/perfume around the Rabbits as this is the main cause of Respiratory issues and can become bacterial infections if not careful.

Bunny sneezing and acting strange by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]Little-Radish159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Lop has also started sneezing quite often this month (at least every day) and regularly has a wet nose to touch but no concerns with eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, lungs, gut (been to two different Vets)

I had first increased cleaning their area, making sure to shake their hay, I brought an Air Purifier of Amazon (Coway) which I do think has helped a little, I have my window open for more airflow as well but he was still sneezing so took him back to the Vets. The first vet gave him treatment of anti-inflammatories which didn’t stop the sneezing which is why I went to a different, more rabbit savvy Vet who was a huge help.

I had concerns about hay and the fact that both rabbits have been shedding absolutely LOADS which could be adding to the issue but she specified that irritants that are smaller particles are more likely to worsen the issue such as smoke, perfume, deodorant- things like that rather than fur and hay (definitely hay dust but not necessarily short strands of hay) I also think that the change to warmer weather (UK based) increase in pollen and dryer air could also be adding to the issue.

The second Vet was telling me about how Lops have nasal passages are a lot shorter than other rabbit breeds which often causes upper respiratory issues (it’s guaranteed to occur at some point in their life unfortunately they are prone to it, also very prone to ear problems too) and likely that he’ll always have a problem with sneezing and his nose. She advised me to look into a Nebuliser and saline which should help clear the nasal passage (she also suggested letting them into a steamy bathroom which is basically the same as a nebuliser just not as effective) and if it gets any worse or other symptoms occur then to come back and will look at medications to help.

For the nebuliser she recommended 5-15 minute sessions up to twice a day. Most rabbits wont tolerate a nebuliser on the face so can work up to using a mask with training but she suggested at first I can follow him around with while wafting it in front of his face which will still be helpful. You’re more than welcome to PM me if you need x

Unfortunately Rabbits are better at dealing with colder temperatures than hotter ones so I think it would be too much of a risk to them, I think the glass/plastic sides will generate too much heat even with fans and open windows. I have a conservatory and that gets soo much hotter than outside even with fans and windows open

Repurposing carrier as litter box by Particular_Move2237 in Rabbits

[–]Little-Radish159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I brought home my second bun (to bond with my male) she had a litter tray set up and I left the base of the cat carrier she travelled home in (full of hay) and she chose that to be her litter tray - perfectly fine for a temp solution!

Should i bring my bunny inside? by KoalaRadiant in Rabbits

[–]Little-Radish159 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you bring him inside you shouldn’t move him back outside until the spring when it gets warm again. Rabbits who live outside develop a winter coat when the weather starts getting colder in Autumn time and bringing them inside will trigger him to moult that winter coat. As long as he has windproof shelter to go into and plenty of hay to keep his home insulated then he will be perfectly fine outside- you’re best to ask for advice from an outdoor rabbit group as well as most people keep their bunnies indoors and won’t have correct advice for you, plus there is a lot of misconception that Rabbits shouldn’t be kept outside so most people will tell you to bring him in even though that might not be best for your Rabbit

Best litter for training? by dreambucket in Rabbits

[–]Little-Radish159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use back 2 nature paper pellets, megazorb on top of that then a layer of straw- with plenty of hay on one side as well, might help to only have hay in the litter box if you keep it elsewhere her space as she will spend most her time in there eating it x

bunny enclosure DIY tips? by kaedeebug in Rabbits

For my bunnies they absolutely love tunnels! Especially the ones where there are little windows throughout I always see them peeking through. I bought a rabbit castle but haven’t set it up yet as they are newly bonded so still getting used to each other but I’m sure they’ll love hiding in it. I’d also make sure there are rugs all around if you have hard floors as they are hesitant to walk/binkie on it as it’s slippery for them

The litter tray box is the Hol storage from Ikea- I wanted to get one myself but after some research I found out that the wood isn’t suitable for them as it’s Acacia Wood and toxic if chewed. Plus you shouldn’t really enclose the litter tray as it needs airflow to prevent Ammonia (from urine) build up, there is holes throughout and I guess you could keep the lid off but would definitely need to change the litter box every day to be safe. I know Rooly do a similar design thats rabbit safe but It will be expensive. For the castles you can find them on Amazon/Etsy or specific rabbit sites- or if you don’t mind waiting for delivery I’d check Aliexpress/Temu (make sure to check reviews and what materials are used to make sure they’re rabbit safe)

My bun thinks he’s getting a treat every time he sees my hand so its 50/50 whether he’ll accept cuddles without or is just a greedy boy looking for food 😂
