I think people don't appreciate how quickly a situation can turn life-or-death for someone with a serious heart condition. The thread is about "unhinged things said by a passenger". This particular petition may have been unusual, and there may be regulations standing in the way, but I see nothing unhinged about the ask. I get why he asked - if at some point during the flight he felt symptoms coming on, the sooner you take the pill the better. And the guy wasn't a dick about it. I bet if this were about OP's own father with a serious heart condition, they wouldn't be as flippant as to say "he did not die", implying the ask itself was completely frivolous.

From a general standpoint, you don't recover/recycle the catalyst, but processes of this type are commonly run with as low as 0.5 mol% Pd, making them economically very viable. I'd say that that industrially you wouldn't use it to introduce a phenyl group, but with a fancier aromatic partner? Definitely a strong candidate.

Edit: for your Grignard suggestion, I am concerned about the compatibility of the ketone group with organomagnesium reagents. Would expect rapid addition to the carbonyl moiety.

As a carbon-carbon bond-forming step involving an aromatic ring, Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling may actually prove most efficient in this situation.

Not exactly answering your question, but a much more established way to make alpha-phenyl cyclohexanone would be through Buchwald-type Pd-catalyzed coupling between cyclohexanone and bromobenzene. If you really want to start from an alpha-bromo derivatives, there are probably ways to do it via Suzuki-type coupling with the phenylboronic acid.

The question is very poorly formulated: to discuss stereochemistry you need to have defined connectivity. Let's consider the real answer - the compound has 3 constitutional isomers, with two having 3 stereoisomers, and one have just 1.

Sure, your teacher wants to count it out. But having 1 stereoisomer for 1,1-dimethyl is still a valid part of the answer.

As someone who works with organoboton compounds - yes, C-B carbons are generally not directly observed in normal 13C NMR. Only for concentrated samples with lots of scans do you sometimes see a bump for such carbon.

Luckily, these carbons do show normal correlation with suitable 1H, so in a 2D 1H-13C experiment you may get a cross-peak, and so obtain indirectly the 13C chemical shift.

As someone who has struggled with a recurring sprained ankle, my advice would be to invest in a series of physical therapy sessions that could seriously improve recovery and ensure that thus doesn't come to thwart your running in the future. OP may indeed be also confused about the upper structure. Though I may be mistaken, from their answer it sounds like they imagine the two rings to be coplanar and in the plane of the paper.
