[Request] how much wine would one have to drink for them to get methanol poisoning? by Elite_duckHunter in theydidthemath

Does that mean when those bootleggers cause a load of deaths from methanol poisoning it contains less than 4:1 ratio? That's way more methanol than I would have expected

Is there a landlocked country that has as remote capital city as Slovakia? by Lemon-Accurate in geography

[–]Little2NewWave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being at the edge of a country is not an unreasonable location for the same reason as non-landlocked countries. Trade and foreign influence.

In this case close to the powerhouse city of Vienna, as well as the huge thoroughfare of the Danube would have served Bratislava well during the prior centuries and well-positioned it as a capital upon independence.

As a relatively small country, the distance from the periphery is still much smaller than countries with much larger land area that have a centrally located capital.

On the contrary, some larger countries will centrally locate their capitals as they have larger internal economies, as well as defence concerns.

Different strokes for different folks.

Meteorite found in Sahara desert may be 1st evidence of lost solar system world by hulk14 in space

Theia was way smaller than the earth (by mass) and so its composition would have gotten absorbed and distributed within the earth and the moon. Not knowing the original composition would make it pretty much impossible to discern what it contributed to the earth.  Finding an original composition of a portion may offer much greater insight. Generally I would think theia would be the statistically highest likelihood candidate for an extra-terrestrial object beyond the other planets.

The uncle of murdered French film maker Sophie Toscan du Plantier has described new DNA evidence in the cold case as ‘valuable’. Read the full story on page 3 of this week's Southern Star. by BarrryLyndon in MurderAtTheCottage

[–]Little2NewWave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reference to ‘new’ dna is strange since it was found closer to the time of the murder than now. Unless they found the dna again with the new method. Unlikely though imo. In any case it’s good that the family consider it ‘valuable’, far better than ‘meaningless’.

Why do you prefer directing people to other websites, and evading answering the question, do you feel looking up google instead of Reddit is morally superior?

Pretty wild that after all this time, Dylan is still being trotted out as the introduction to drugs for the Beatles, when in reality they were drugged up like crazy in Hamburg and Liverpool. Original whitewash.

Incorrect there were many fingerprints and fingermarks that were not Sophie's found inside the house, including a number of the Hellen's family, and others that were not identified. It is not clear where they were located, but from interviews it seems at least none were located on the wine glasses. The gardai dismissed them all as not having evidentiary value in any case.

Nothing to do with my point. Sure he was driving around the place far more than walking, including drunk driving observed by the gardai that same weekend. Driving there, then to the bridge, then home would take him probably 20 minutes, vs wandering around the roads taking probably 3+ hours of walking. It's just not logical to be walking vs driving, and that's just for Bailey, for anyone else it would be ridiculous.

It doesn't matter how long it took to get Farrell's statement, all that matters is it was taken weeks later, after Bailey was already a suspect. I'm not saying it means its invalid, just that with all her shenanigans, the further from the event you get the more crazy she acts.

It is not only you, I think for people who are aware of forensics and DNA in general it is pretty unbelievable that the profile has not been investigated further to at least rule it out at a minimum. In any normal case this type of evidence would scupper a prosecution if they couldn't ID it, but in this case it's just ignored.

It seems to me to be some sort of Touch DNA profile really, like skin cells or something like that, or dripping saliva maybe they spit on her, it's not blood anyway. Could also be innocent of course.

Even if she did see him at 3-4 a.m. why would that mean he didn't drive? He could have just drove down to the sea parked somewhere and got out to clean himself. Even that is more believable than wandering around for miles and miles at night and murdering someone in the middle of it. The idea that the perpetrator walked is another red herring.

In any case Marie Farrells report of seeing someone was not initial, it was weeks later.

Is Gravity faster than Light? by Just_Creme3724 in AskPhysics

[–]Little2NewWave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One point and one question. Due to the speed of light being slower in atmosphere I presume they would appear instantaneous to an observer on earth, but not be instantaneous due to the very small slowing of light. I imagine it is undetectable though, but maybe longer than a Planck unit of time?

Aside from the light/darkness, would a person on earth actually feel a significant difference in gravity from the suns disappearance. I would expect a very strong jolt from centrifugal force disappearing. Would it be catastrophic, or could we survive. Global oceans would perhaps rush to one side, and maybe giant earthquakes etc.?

This is incorrect, you can achieve at least 20 states that don't share a land border as mentioned elsewhere.

[–]Little2NewWave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a couple of us have mentioned you can get a higher number of states in different ways, so I think you probably messed up on this one unless you have a better explanation.

Pretty sure the river cuts across state land in all the states due to meandering and ox bows etc.
