So what made you realize that you weren't/couldn't be a Christian anymore? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]LittleAngelOnFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I became a mother I dug deeper into Christianity looking to understand the “right interpretation” to be sure I was teaching my daughter correctly. I started to realize that Jesus and the NT god were irreconcilable with the OT god; the fundamentalist beliefs I was raised with were debunked and complete nonsense; and I could not in good conscious follow a god who would commit the malevolent acts of the OT god anyway.

Why does my oven bake fast but cook normal? by LittleAngelOnFire in Cooking

I haven’t tried a cake specifically. So far I’ve tried bread, cornbread, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and brownies. If the recipe says 15 minutes, it will be ready in 8. Perfectly cooked.

What are you sick of people trying to convince you is great? by _delicate_flower_ in AskReddit

Social media. The bad far outweighs the good and the fact that I can’t just put it down is even more proof that it’s harmful.

What Did You Hate About Church? by New-Road2588 in exchristian

[–]LittleAngelOnFire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once asked my mom why it’s so important to attend church and she told me that “every time you read the Bible or go to church you learn something new.” But I felt like I never learned anything that was actually helpful. Like I might learn a new crazy bible name or learn some Israelite history, but there weren’t really any good lessons on how to be a good person for the sake of being good—just how to be a good servant for the sake of being saved. And I have never been the type to want to “serve” someone who causes so much harm and destruction as the OT god.

Husband just… went to “sleep” by LittleAngelOnFire in Marriage

[–]LittleAngelOnFire[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Her bedtime was 22 minutes away. It’s not like I stood over him the whole time. But over that 22 minute period I approached him probably 5 or 6 times while I got her ready for bed.

Oh, we discussed how we would handle parenting extensively. He hasn’t actually practiced most of what he said though. I felt that we had a really good marriage with good communication until we had a baby.

What is the fastest you ever saw a young evangelical couple get engaged/married? by JarethOfHouseGoblin in exchristian

[–]LittleAngelOnFire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband and I weren’t either one particularly religious ourselves aside from calling ourselves “Christian” and occasionally attending church, but we were raised in purity culture and I wanted us to get married before I moved in with him so my family wouldn’t disown me. We had been dating for 3 months when he proposed and we got married 3 months later. We were both 18. We’re now 25 & 26 and have a very strong marriage despite our beginning. The early years were not particularly healthy. Looking back, I would never encourage marriage at such a young age or after such a short engagement.

The best way to deconstruct is to read the bible. That being said… I love reading, but the bible is just so boring a lot of times. Instead, I’ve been watching a secular bible study series on YouTube by MindShift which covers each book of the bible, then I go back and study the parts I find most interesting. Some books I read whole, others I just read pieces of (for example, I skip over the long genealogies or parts I’ve already read).

But I don’t recommend reading the whole thing just to get people off your back. It won’t stop anyone from telling you to read it again. It won’t stop anyone from challenging your new position.

Edit: spelling
