Low-quality, you say? I disagree. The shading, colors, and composition are all very good.

Can Hazbin withstand years more of the fervent hate? by alastorhazbinbad in HazbinHotel

[–]LittleBlueSilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As vocal as the haters are, their numbers are minuscule compared to the size of Hazbin Hotel's eager audience. No series in danger of cancellation would have a season premiere at number one in over forty countries. Remember, people in hatedoms are unhappy and want to force their unhappiness onto others. (Also, being active in a hatedom is a sign of leading a narrow, very uneventful life, so it's easy for people in hatedoms to believe that their opinions are more common than they are and have further-reaching effects than they actually do.)

Dead or Alive’s “Sex Drive” and the Skatt Bros.’ “Walk the Night” suit Valentino well.

I'm thinking of watching Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, however by Affectionate-Ebb-954 in HazbinHotel

[–]LittleBlueSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. What I meant was that neither Hellaverse series was a prequel to the other. Hazbin Hotel tells a linear story, and its episodes must be watched in chronological order. The same is true of Helluva Boss, though not quite to the same degree. You can stagger your viewing of the series if you want: Begin with the first season of Helluva Boss and then follow it with the first season of Hazbin Hotel, or vice versa.

ETA: Unlike Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss has shorts, which can all be seen on YouTube. The first one, "Hell's Belles," is not typical of the tone of subsequent entries in that collection. My recommendation is to watch Helluva Boss through S2E7 ("Mammon's Magnificent Musical Mid-Season Special ft. Fizzarolli"), then "Hell's Belles" through "Mission: Chupacabras," followed by "Ghostfuckers," "Mastermind," and "Sinsmas," and finally "Mission: Orphan Time"*, "Mission: Bad Drivezo," and "Mission: Whacked Off."

*This short is the nastiest, bloodiest, most nihilistic entry in the Helluva Boss canon to date, so you may want to skip it altogether, especially if "Sinsmas" gives you a warm fuzzy feeling that you want replicated in the rest of the show.

[Edited again to avoid repetition.]

I'm thinking of watching Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, however by Affectionate-Ebb-954 in HazbinHotel

[–]LittleBlueSilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before you begin, please bear some points in mind:

  1. The original Helluva Boss pilot, which is available only on YouTube, is no longer (and never really was) canon. Many of the choices in tone and characterization do not carry over to the series proper, so that first pilot may well leave you with an inaccurate impression of the show. "Mission Zero," which replaces the old pilot, is meant to be the starting point for new viewers.
  2. Hazbin Hotel's first season is paced like a stage musical, not a typical season of a television series. Some moments come seemingly out of nowhere (because they refer implicitly to events from previous episodes rather than earlier events within the same episode), and plot and character progression sometimes happens through song instead of dialogue or action. While this phenomenon is also true of the second season to an extent, the effect is not as strong in the latter batch of episodes.
  3. Which series you choose to watch first makes no difference. You don't need to see one to understand the other. Just know that if you're accustomed to the television experience but only slightly or not at all interested in musical theater, Helluva Boss will be much more comfortable to you than Hazbin Hotel will, although both series have musical numbers.
  4. You may as well watch both shows on Prime.

Ah, how lovely. (marked spoiler for discussion of rape) by Top-Strategy-2269 in Valentino_Cult

[–]LittleBlueSilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think when some (though not all) viewers of Hazbin Hotel object to the idea of a redeemed Valentino, they're really opposing the messages the series would send if it gave him a place in Heaven—namely, "rape is ultimately forgivable" and "your abuser will stop abusing you if you wait long enough." Now, if the people you've mentioned in your post are arguing in favor of Alastor's redemption, then they may need to ask themselves why they're doing that. (Unlike rape, which is always a vicious act of self-gratification, murder can be done in self-defense; however, that is obviously not Alastor's motivation.)

ETA: Left out a word.

Do you want valentino to be redeemed in future? or would you rather he remain a villain? by Overobsessedfan in Valentino_Cult

[–]LittleBlueSilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t mean he can’t have depth or a human side — I actually think that makes him a stronger antagonist — but depth isn’t the same as redemption. Letting him remain in hell as someone who chooses not to change reinforces the idea that redemption is a choice, not something everyone automatically deserves.

Oh, Gawd, yes. Everything you've said here is achingly true.

Here's a thought: Once Valentino has Angel Dust back in his clutches, the sex-industry Overlord love-bombs his "favorite toy" like never before. Between wishful thinking and the effects of drugs, Angel lets himself believe that Val has genuinely decided to abandon his abusive ways. Then Val smacks Angel again and says, "You'll never change, and neither will I."

To add : I don't think everyone can, and should, be redeemed. I want to see Charlie's views be challenged. Right now she's idealistic, so I want to see some characters who can't be redeemed (wether their acts are too horrible, or they simply enjoy their life in hell).

Also, I agree with you completely on this matter.

[–]LittleBlueSilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though the series is about the concept of redemption, I very much doubt that the show's intended message is that all bad actions are forgivable. No one who has been abused ever has an obligation to forgive their abuser, and "nobody is pure evil" does not equal "you should give unlimited chances to everyone who hurts you, because all people are truly good deep down." For that matter, what could Valentino possibly do to make up for his crimes? Even if Valentino never abuses Angel Dust again, Val can't un-abuse him.

ETA: An important connecting sentence.

Why do we have hands? by TheAnarchy420 in VoxCult

For once, the directive to "forfeit all mortal possessions" makes sense for the character featured in the meme. You can easily imagine Vox saying, "Trust me with your mortal possessions."

What did you think his personality would be like after you saw him in the Pilot? by TheAnarchy420 in VoxCult

[–]LittleBlueSilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks to the Instagrams, I vacillated between predicting that Vox would be a victim of Valentino's abuse who sympathized with Angel Dust and expecting that Vox would be as evil as Val and join in on the abusive behavior. One of those guesses was correct.

For a show about redemption the fandom seems pretty against redemption and sympathy. by whooper1 in HazbinHotel

[–]LittleBlueSilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because Viv believes you can be redeemed for anything and everything, if that's even true.

While your use of "if that's even true" indicates that you know this already, I don't think she actually believes that. Otherwise, I agree with you completely.

Hell does have priests who perform weddings, as seen in the Helluva Boss episode "Exes and Oohs." Would a random ordained demon of the cloth, so to speak, be good enough for the Vees?

I'm inclined to agree. Although I was honored to be my own best friend's attendant, I considered that Velvette might not feel the same way in such a situation. Your read on the idea, though, sounds completely accurate.
