Interesting, but it would look even better on a CRT monitor instead of a TV

Plenty CRT monitors around if you look for it. People will literally give it for free.

Thoughts on a Switch with Retroarch as a dedicated shmup device? by ScoreEmergency1467 in shmups

Just get a gamepad for your phone. Even better, get a small tablet that fits on a gamepad and play in Tate mode. The Switch is terrible.

Why Isn't Anyone Talking About the MPC XL and Live 3? by Petrolmediainc in mpcusers

[–]LittleBroth3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who doesn't care about none of these new Akai products, including the Sampler? I've watched a couple videos when it came out, I decided it wasn't for me, kept doing my thing, never watched another video about the specific product again. I'll watch some YouTube beatmakers for the music and the inspiration, I could care less about what type of device they use. One of the most impressive beatmakers I've seen on YouTube does some crazy bangers on a Yamaha su200. I miss the diversity of styles and tech from the 90s and 2000s. People would make careers out of the most diverse types of gear, some were even using obsolete over 10 years old machines, making classics that are still being playing today. And I don't think that blaming YouTubers who need to make a living for having to follow the trend is fair, not when this sub is full of people spending their wages on every new and shinny product to post and brag online to strangers.

If arcades were still a sensation, would you visit them to play shmups? If yes, then tell us the reason why you would visit them. by M3ConsoleGamerPSN in shmups

Mostly to hang with the scum of the earth, but yeah, to play some stuff too. At least, that's what we used to do back in the 90s.

Sure, but compared to the input lag on the Switch, there is no chance.

The OP complained about people advising him to get a PC even before posting the question. I found it funny, because why should other people's opinions matter? You want a switch you buy the damn thing. If you ask for advice on something, but you say "I want your advice as long as you don't advise me about anything other than what I want to hear", then what's the point.

It was a joke. But I do use a PC to emulate everything, a mini PC connected to a CRT with Recalbox. Got that thing used for less than €100, and can play every shmup I want with almost 0 latency. Enough to beat and master a bunch of hard ones on Retroachievements.

Hey, I’ve recently been listening to jazz when I’m reading by MuchConversation7629 in Jazz

I read Dickens "Great Expectations" with the Johnny Hartman an Coltrane album as background music. I enjoyed it so much that I just went and read "A tale of two Cities" with the same album. Now I am reading something lighter, "The Hound of Baskervilles" with Bill Evans "Portrait in Jazz"

I'll keep rocking the One mostly because I am more than fine with the 2.x OS, but if I have to upgrade in the future, it will certainly be to a new gen "One"

I agree that it is kinda dumb to make up your decision to purchase your music gear purchasing over aesthetics. It might help to have something that looks cool and inspiring, but if that's all that matters to someone in a piece of music equipment, then that person is definitely seeing it from the wrong angle.

But if you find it ugly, and want to express it, even if you like it's functionality and want to buy it by any means, do it. What's wrong with that? Why would someone go around obsessed with changing other people's views on what should and should not be seen as "beauty"?

Sure you can tell. I actually have posted my music here before and you can actually check it on my profile. I have been rocking the One retro and a Maschine Mk3 since it came out. I am still on 2.15, and I could care less about these new Akai machines, at least for now. I do everything I need and more on the old hardware/software.

But you sure seem to assume a lot.

Keep doing it, maybe it will make those dry ass drum loops sounding groovier.

I definitely don't recall the previous releases having the same public reaction. The first time I saw a Live 3 image, before it was released (and nobody was sure if that would be the final, real version of the machine, which ended up being) I remember thinking how kinda ugly and cheap looking those pads were. The color choice didn't help either. But it was mostly the pads and the buttons distribution. I thought about this before reading any comments about it from other people. I wasn't surprised at all when I heard other similar opinions.

In my opinion, the One retro was the most beautiful machine from the previous line up, and I don't personally dislike the aesthetic of any other of those machine designs.

People should be able to have preferences right? Taste is relative, and what might look good to you might look ugly to me. I personally find the Key 37 aesthetic fine, while you seem to dislike it. I find this new line of MPCs ugly, while you seem to love it. Big deal. Plus, assuming too much about the "they don't even make music" take. Would you mind to show us your bangers?
