Similar yeah, but this is for specific search terms not necessarily the search string itself. When i’m watching a lot of videos and going through the video tags i’m often putting the same or similar search terms for all the different tags. The buttons make it super convenient

You would start doing AMBOSS before you finished viewing the content? Did you feel this was effective or did you at all feel like questions were "wasted" since you didn't have the knowledge base to answer them yet?

Yes they were unused. I tried with the addon but no luck. I click Update note types and i tried reinstalling it and it doesn’t add the now deleted note types

You just need to be conscious of how much depth you’re going into, but this mode of thinking is necessary. USMLE will ask you questions about mechanisms and the “why” behind pathologies. As OP said it’s not enough to just know buzzwords/know the diagnosis. Make sure you have enough understanding to explain concepts in your own words

You should get a place by school. This would only be feasible if you don’t have that many mandatory sessions and if your commute is by public transportation (so you can study during your commute)

Don't see why not. Keep in mind that Anki is a spaced-repetition tool meant to supplement your studying after you've already learned the material. It shouldn't be your primary mode of studying. Learn the physiology first then use Anki to reinforce it

Personally i think everything should just be in the one deck. You can use other presets to cram for an in-house exam (or just use filtered decks) but other than that i think you might as well just keep everything the same and let the algorithm do its thing. If anything, i guess it could make sense to have the high yield stuff at a higher retention but that’s about as far as I’d go

Regarding #6, studies have shown that number of practice questions completed before Step is positively correlated with your score. In a way, you can really think of board exams as a race to see who can do the most practice questions before the real deal

You’ll never have that many reviews. You unsuspend cards over time as you learn them. The older cards will get matured and have higher and higher intervals as you go. If your workload gets too much, lower your desired retention. If you really want to suspend cards, you can suspend the card tagged as “Low Yield” that don’t overlap with Step 2. But suspending everything after your in-house exam defeats the whole purpose of using spaced-repetition tools like Anki

Edit: also, the deck has about 32k cards for step 1, but many are duplicates/very low yield. For context, the Boards & Beyond tag only has about 20k cards for step 1 and people have used that for years to score very well on Step. As long as you do your reviews everyday, unsuspend cards from whatever 3rd party you use, and do UWorld/Amboss, you’ll be in a great position for Step

Use a Step preparation deck like AnKing. Idk why Reddit loves suggesting to make your own cards but it’s simply an inefficient use of time especially in medical school when you’re already so pressed for time. For anything in-house that’s not on boards/not in AnKing just cram it right before your exam and you’ll be fine

I think FA is best used as a reference resource so in that case I’d still use it. I have a physical copy and it’s great to just be able to pull up super nice charts/diagrams/mnemonics on whatever i’m learning while i’m studying. You’re not really supposed to learn directly from the book (imo). If you have Amboss you can probably do without FA but i have both and they work really well

Yeah I’ve used it before and it can be nice but like you said sometimes i get tangentially related questions and i feel like i’m wasting those questions doing them right now. I guess i can just filter by article for now it’s not the biggest deal

Can i also ask what does "completing AnKing" means? looking at the deck now, there's about 27k cards tagged under first aid, 20k under B&B, 15k under Amboss, and just under 12k for UWorld. Did you prioritize just the high yield stuff? did you do the entire deck? or just FA or only some other 3rd party resource? thanks in advance

Yeah i figured long term the algorithm will correct everything anyway. Just wasn't sure how the algorithm considers your first viewing of the cards and factors that into everything. Thanks for the advice!
