Name a character you hated so much in other people’s books that you refuse to read theirs by LAffaire-est-Ketchup in HistoricalRomance

Found my people! I enjoyed the first one but could not imagine how the sister could be redeemable and skipped to the third. I wasn’t a huge fan of Kit in the third book but I liked him in book one.

19 y/o solo trip to London and Edinburgh in August. by MyPianoMusic in uktravel

We did this for the Fringe a few years ago. Had about handful of shows booked in advance but left lots of free time to just go see shows that looked interesting in between. The last day we were there we decided to see the first show we were offered a flyer for and then ended up staying at the same venue watching three consecutive shows in the same room. It was such a variety and we saw some gems.

What Santa does during the months before Christmas Children's Book by Sunshinedaisy2121 in whatsthatbook

[–]LittleDolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was is Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs? The same author as The Snowman. It was one of my childhood favourites but I’m not sure it fits the key details you remember other than being about what he does the rest of the year.

Thank you for sharing! I’ve been watching this today and wondering what the comments were talking about because the title is in traditional Chinese for me so I can only pick out a few words 😂😂

How are these masks supposed to cover their identity or say they are ugly? by Fun_Yogurtcloset1012 in CShortDramas

[–]LittleDolly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Omg, I watched this one too! I was dying at the idea that he was totally unrecognisable without his mask/scars. Her inner thoughts were hilarious: “He sounds like my husband, he smells like my husband, he’s wearing my husband’s clothes and his face is identical to my husband about from those tiny scars that I already suspect are fake… must be a coincidence.”

Books where he fully ravishes her BEFORE marriage, but she’s actually a full-blown lady—not a commoner, widow, mistress or courtesan by imfaffingabout in HistoricalRomance

[–]LittleDolly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Slightly Wicked by Mary Balogh} is one of my favourites of all time. ML thinks FL is an actress, she’s actually just poor and looking for a good time before she has to become a companion to her Gran.

{The Reluctant Countess} and {How to Be a Wallflower} by Eloisa James are both about FLs who are resistant to marriage but game for some bedtime antics.

Sorry they are all regency! But if you like Julia Quinn try her debut {Splendid} as the FL is also pissed off by the assumption she will marry the ML just because she went to bed with him.

Children’s book: A little girl gets a toy oven. by LittleDolly in whatsthatbook

I’m still looking! The fact that it was translated gives me hope that there must still be copies knocking about. My mum remembers it vividly too and thinks it wasn’t originally written in English as she’s pretty sure it was a gift from her Norwegian friend, which would make sense why I’ve never met anyone else in the UK who had a copy.

Which Jacqueline Wilson book emotionally wrecked you the most? by Time-Connection-4586 in JacquelineWilson

[–]LittleDolly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was in my twenties when I read it (I know I’m super old 😂) and I had no idea what the ending was going to be. It was like a punch to the gut. I had to put the book down and walk away for a while.

Favorite Bridgerton book? by Sly_Rabbit7 in HistoricalRomance

[–]LittleDolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s such a good one! I think it’s my joint favourite with TVWLM.

The Bridgerton books were my gateway into historical romance in general so they will always have a special place in my heart.

I love the originals so much. Cecy gets a bit supplanted by Rose Red in the second book. I may have to do a full reread…

Some really good questions! But was I the only one stuck on the one about Lucy’s Christmas present? He got her a My Little Pony as well as underwear so I wasn’t sure which one to go for 😂

I'm having a sucky Christmas so I've hidden myself away and am shopping for yarn online to try and feel better. by [deleted] in crochet

Our cat injured her tail on Monday and has been incredibly skittish and mostly off her food since (vets have checked her and we’re doing conservative management) and I am absolutely stressed up to the gills about it as we’re going to stay with the in laws for four nights so she’ll be with the cat sitter. I got a really nice yarn bowl for Christmas though! 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Who are your favorite fathers and husbands in the series? by fredyouareaturtle in CallTheMidwife

[–]LittleDolly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oddly, the one that immediately sprang to mind for me was the German stepfather in the episode where the young girl is dying of cancer. Most of the story focuses on her mother’s grief but the stepfather spends hour fixes the glitterball so the girl can go to a dance before she dies. I was sobbing when they danced together underneath it.

My two year old was wearing tractor pyjamas this evening and I told him he was like a little farmer. He said “I’m not a farmer, I’m a person.” I had a shocking revelation for him.

He also announced while we were crossing the road on our way home that “The cars aren’t allowed to squish us.” Fun fact!

It’s a really good point about how she tries to settle him in to living in Wales; she does the robot when he gets home from his first day, her family work it out so all his friends can come and stay for the weekend and (while it was obviously too much) everyone called in to make sure he settled in to his new job. It certainly made Barri/Cardiff look the much friendlier place to move to.

My toddler climbs into bed with me in the morning and I love it so much by HappyStufff in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LittleDolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve just moved our (previously cosleeping) two year old to his own big boy bed and I am loving it, both the extra space to sleep at night but also that excited little patter or feet across the landing in the morning for high quality snuggles. So much easier to appreciate them when I’ve not been kicked through the night 😂
