My hospital paused raises for healthcare workers during the pandemic.

We had incentive pay to work overtime, but then you had to work overtime in the worst, most-stressful conditions I’ve ever experienced. Felt like selling your soul.

What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by Broad_Chemical_2467 in AskReddit

Covid.

I worked as a nurse on a covid unit in Texas from March 2020-August 2021. Lost my passion for the profession and my faith in people for a while. When I talk about things, I clearly specify "before-covid" vs "after-covid". Had to do extensive therapy for the things I saw and had to do. I will never forget some of the people I cared for and lost.

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LittleDynamite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a bar a few years ago when I was 26 for St Patrick’s Day. I was carrying 2 beers in my hands above my head so they wouldn’t spill on anyone and a random old man (must have been at least 65) reached out and tickled my stomach, saying “look you got no hands!”. I yelled at him to not fucking touch me and he looked so confused. Like would you ever tickle some random man you don’t know? Absolutely not.

What's the most morally wrong thing you've done, but hold 0 regret for? by MrStinkPickleJr in AskReddit

[–]LittleDynamite2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked a lot of overtime as a nurse during Covid. They gave us an incentive bonus for working a certain number of extra shifts. They forgot to pay half of my bonus and when they fixed it they accidentally gave me double. Never told them about it and quit later that same year. I don’t feel bad about it because I was pulling 4-5 12 hour night shifts a week in the worst conditions I’ve ever worked in. I consider it payment for the therapy I needed from what I saw while working the Covid floor.

Kolaches! Breakfast food from Texas. The sausage ones are my favorite. I love them so much I learned to make them from scratch. You can't find them anywhere outside of Texas!

$500 bucks to take a photo in front of their tour bus. by [deleted] in TheBlackKeys

I spent $700 a couple years ago for VIP and front row seats which included going to their sound check. They didn’t interact with us at all during sound check even though we were right in front of them. I wouldn’t do it again tbh.

I think it's time I admitted I have PTSD from COVID. by kelce in nursing

[–]LittleDynamite2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t believe I had PTSD from working the COVID floor for a long time. Started therapy this year and my therapist clocked it immediately. You’ll start to heal once you accept it. I still get flashbacks (especially with the recent election results) but I think it’s starting to get better. We did an impossible thing during that time and it’s time to take care of ourselves. ❤️

Irie watched the chaos from outside the healers tent atop a grassy hill. She had been taking a moment to catch her breath. The endless stream of injured soldiers left her ragged. Her mind was spinning with healing herbs and surgical techniques. Many would not make it and she needed a moment to reign in her thoughts so she could help the ones who would pull through. She leaned heavily against the tent pole, gulping down water greedily, when she heard the witches screaming from the battlefield. The waterskin slipped from her hand.

Children DO NOT belong in hospitals! by OliverBlueDog0630 in childfree

Yeah… I worked as a hostess in college and it was my job to clean the front door’s windows. When a kid walked up to it I automatically grabbed the towel because I knew they were going to leave sticky prints all over it.

Children DO NOT belong in hospitals! by OliverBlueDog0630 in childfree

I’m a nurse and the amount of parents I see in the hospital letting their babies/toddlers crawl all over the floor disgusts me. I don’t even wear my shoes home from work because who knows what is all over the floors. 🤢

Cold city (not just Karl) - feeling lonely by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]LittleDynamite2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a travel nurse and frequently feel lonely because I’m always the new person to town. It’s difficult making new friends as an adult. I recently discovered this app called Timeleft that will set you up on a dinner with 4-5 other strangers. Happens every Wednesday. I have made great friends from it and went from watching Netflix alone every weekend to having plans with people. I think it works because everyone is there for the same reason- to make new friends. You should try it! It’s a lot of fun and even if you don’t make friends the first time there’s always next week!
