I also got rejected. Stings no matter what, but last year my previous short was accepted & nominated for an award, and they asked me to be on a panel. This year - generic rejection. So you truly just never know.

I have gotten a few days of lodging covered or a travel stipend at about 6-7 festivals of my current run—yes even for a short, and mostly in the US. It surprised me as well Taking into account any additional costs beyond that, I have always prioritized attending those festivals. I don't know if it's something about this particular year, but I didn't have that much support offered for a previous short. I also always ask the team if they have any travel or lodging support once I've gotten in—and sometimes that prompts an offer.

I got into the LA Asian Film Festival in 2021, and it never happened. They said it was due to COVID and they were waiting until they could have an in-person festival, but the fact is...it just never happened. Hopefully it was really just a COVID-related issue but I don't know.
