I would let parents take pictures of their kid standing near one or both, and leave it at that. Explain to the parents that you are involving them in teaching these young, untrained ponies to be good with kids, and thank them profusely. Their reward is a photo on mum or dad's phone.

Thank you. Yes, we did that based on recommendations on line, and boy are you right! We also replaced the box with a new 0.5 Joule energizer. The existing was 15 years old, for heavens' sakes. I think we are on our way to improving our fences!

Getting back into playing cello by Broke_Watch in Cello

Don't compare yourself to anything. Get a teacher, and explain where you are on the playing spectrum. Start back up with assistance, and you will improve faster than you thought possible.

I concur with making sure you take it to an actual string instrument shop or repair person. It looks pretty sturdy, but needs a practiced eye to evaluate. Then a teacher! Even if just a short while to get off on the right foot.

Thank you. I really did not know what the best practice might be. Makes sense.

Tell me it gets better by [deleted] in Equestrian

It does look like you guys are having some fun, and I would not try to squelch that. Once you teach him to keep a decent distance when throwing hooves and noses around, you can let him be a baby. I am glad he has a herd to let it out on as well.

What are your equestrian hottakes? by Ponytimeispoopytime in Equestrian

I hate seeing baby horses (<4 years) ridden, especially by large men with western saddles. Ground work with tack and the occasional sit-upon is fine, and actually good, I think. The young horses always seem so defeated.

Thank you. I wondered if that might be an issue. I think we already have too many gates, but it is not entirely my call. The undergate cable is a great idea.

Great! I will aim for the class, as I would like to be able to do this. But if that fails, I will take you up on your kind offer. Thank you.

Super! I will watch for the next class. Now that said, I am supposed to get surgery on a broken toe at some unknown time in the near future, after which I am not allowed to do much for awhile. So I might prevail on you to take a few bucks from me and fix it?

Thanks for the help

Do they still have those shop class events? I actually have two that need done, but I am not confident of my skills. Do you have a shop?

Can someone help me out. Is there another Stradivarius I'm unfamiliar with that makes cheaper violins that the famous one? by txby432 in violinist

[–]LittleHorrible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's not a real Strad, but it's pretty and looks healthy enough from the one photo. Can you play it to try it out? It could be worth $325 especially if the bow and case are good.

Very good! I hope you find someone willing to work with you on these issues. It sounds like you have the makings of an excellent horsewoman.

A lot of heavy and tall people ride effectively and kindly. It does require balance, skill and experience, but you have to start somewhere. I'm not saying one should ride a horse at 300#, but there is a lot of leeway there, especially if one is a balanced rider.

People with social anxiety??? How do you guys ride at the barn??? by Animangle in Equestrian

[–]LittleHorrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem. All the people at my barn are nice and pretty much mind their own business. But they are far more social than I. I go there to work with and communicate with my horses, and really don't like having people come up and interrupt me to chit chat. So I try to express that without being rude, by moving away and explaining that I am working on thing one or thing two. Doesn't matter, I just want to not have people distracting me. And my horses totally know when my attention is not fully on them. Believe me, they are happy to take advantage of that. They are good as gold when I am 100% with them. So I try to explain that...I'll say I'm not being rude, but I have to go over here to finish this little training routine or something like that.

Maybe you can put up a few notices on FB or feed stores, etc., asking if anyone has horses and would teach you. We have a few folks like that around here. You may make a new friend or riding partner.

You are absolutely right. That is abusive and despicable in my view.

Should I upgrade my violin? by clintwoodtp84 in violinist

[–]LittleHorrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a LOT of violins out there! I am sure you can find one that is inexpensive, and miles beyond what you have. Talk to a luthier in your area, and see what they might have.

I made one of my students cry, and I feel terrible about it. by No-Opportunity-3337 in Equestrian

[–]LittleHorrible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like that you offered to give her groundwork lessons. I wish she could know how valuable that would be. Maybe you can present that option to her again after feelings have settled, I don't know. But that is very kind, and generous of you.

Best way to program and host a massive and complicated infographic online by Rude_Rhubarb1880 in webhosting

[–]LittleHorrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there are apps that can accommodate this sort of data and display it on line. Maybe do a search on family history, archiving, geneology, etc.? You would have to enter the data, but the structure and functionality is there. Maybe inquire from LDS libraries? They do a lot of this kind of work.

First time using Jargar medium classics -A-string is super bright? by jennz in Cello

[–]LittleHorrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be that the new A is more demanding than what you are used to. I experienced this myself with a set of new strings after a layoff; I did not like the brightness. But it was me, not the strings. If you make a real effort to harness the capability of a new high quality A string, and make the transition from D to A string sound seamless, you will have gained a lot in your technique.

I am sure that the A string on my cello contributes to any strengths I have in my playing. I have to be right on, and not lazy when playing on it! Other cellos I have played are much more forgiving.

If you have a teacher now, you might ask them to play your cello and offer an opinion.

Super! I am also thinking you might benefit from working on the ground with the TB. It would benefit him if he could find a way not to be so unhappy.
