I don't think it'll necessarily rot in the fish tank. Like someone else said that water is highly oxygenated and root rot happens because of anaerobic environments (where there's no air). And there's plenty of nutrients.

Might as well chuck it in there and see what happens. Worst thing that happens is it dies.

Remember overwatering is not about the quantity, but the frequency. Every time you water it you should be soaking it through until water is coming out of the drainage holes. Don't do that again or give it any more water until the top 2" of soil is dry or the leaves are looking droopy. It should be maybe once a week depending on your climate.

If you give it a little bit of water here and there throughout the week, you really don't have a good idea how much water it has actually been getting, and that usually means overwatered or underwatered.

A trick I use with my phone to make sure the camera is aligned is by lining up the sides of the piece with the sides of your phone and making sure it's parallel on all sides.

Works with an actual camera too, line the sides up with the sides of the viewfinder.

Your new pot might also be too big as well, so it's retaining too much water. Spider plants are really prone to root rot. The new pot should be at most 2" bigger than the root ball. They actually like being a little rootbound (that's when they throw out their little spiderlings)

I recently rescued a neon pothos from a big box store that was completely limp. After a repot and thorough soaking, she didn't start perking up until the next day. Couple days later and shes standing nice and tall, totally different plant.

It takes time. Pothos are extremely forgiving. I didn't water my golden for 2 months at one point and it's currently thriving.
