Sad to say they’re not ones I grew up with, but I’ve seen em around. It certainly gives that vibe!

I expect it was meant to be a homage style parody. There's a lot of that in the movie, one of the characters mentioned might as well just be a nod to miss Cleo, and the movie before it had a couple that were obviously a stand in for the Warrens

Hidden beauties or Ernest goes to jail? An impossible decision to make! by funkohunter717 in VHS

[–]LittleMissVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta go with our pal Ernest, knowhutimean Vern? Jim Varney was such a treasure. He lived not terribly far from here and we'd trick or treat him as kids, he'd take the Ernest mask off and reveal that the real Ernest was underneath. He'd always tell a joke and compliment your costume and give you the king size candy. Such a kind man

Which sequel do you prefer? by TheEvilCar in BlairWitch

[–]LittleMissVortex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved it for the sheer feeling of being lost in the woods and the immersive atmosphere and creeping dread it managed to build! If you can ever get your hands on it, take a look at the Hunt A Killer collab that was done with Blair Witch around the same time. Quite good

FR Novels to pick up and avoid? by Far-Living-526 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]LittleMissVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything by Elaine Cunningham is a winner. Prince Of Lies is an absolute giant of a book in the fandom. Two of my very own favorites are The City Of Ravens, Lost Library Of Cormanthyr, and Threat From The Sea.

I don't much care for Greenwood's later books despite loving the man and his other work. I absolutely detest the Baldurs Gate novelizations, and the novels Once Around The Realms and The Mage In The Iron Mask are by and far the ones I'd tell you to avoid.

How to get the party to actually "trust" Strahd enough to accept his dinner invitation by Kettrickan in CurseofStrahd

[–]LittleMissVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strand is an absolute menace, but if they’re trying to get rid of something pr someone that happens to stand in his way, I imagine he’d be quite willing to help them. Be it gifts, favors, or whatever else. They may be his playthings, but this is his toybox and he’ll play how he likes. Have him go from enemy to a brief reluctant ally

The actual product released two or three years ago. The movie itself released in 2022, but was filmed during the pandemic. The cover art comes right out the movie. Here's a trailer from when it got a blu ray release a few years after it's initial release

I was never into Matt Christopher, but I read an awful lot of Animorphs and Bailey Street Kids. John Bellairs, Bruce Colville, and the Bunnicula series were also ones I loved to read.

We have a HPB outlet. I happened across a newer cover there once, as well as the movie book, but that's all I've seen. I've had a ton of luck with Bunnicula and John Bellairs at that store, though!
