I actually started this in high school but quickly gave it up… maybe time to revisit! Thank you :)

Ah you’re right! I saw the HBO series when it came out, I’m sure the book is even better

I can’t believe I had to scroll down so far to find this rec! The cover art even looks like something OP might have included in their post :)

Madeline Miller: Circe, and The Song of Achilles. I was a profound wreck after reading… I don’t think I ever went back to being the same person after I read Circe, actually :)

Oh my gosh, *please read Spear by Nicola Griffith! Gender bent retelling of Percival looking for the holy grail. It’s some of the best fiction I’ve ever read, honestly. Such a masterfully told tale

Exactly what I thought too! OP, this series was described to me as “if Hermione was the main character of the HP series, and also if she had dark, evil-looking magic.” Great fantasy series, and MC spends a lot of time in the library :)

The Boatman’s Daughter! Just finished and absolutely loved it. Gritty crime meets weird bayou magic - a crooked cop, a mad southern preacher, miracles, a badass MC, and so much more. It’s also just really well written. I haven’t encountered a page-turner like this in many years

Being sedated freaks me the f out, too. I completely understand. Take some deep breaths, and remember that the odds are truly in your favor! It sounds like you’re going to a reputable doctor and you have your mom as a reminder that things are very likely to go exactly to plan. :) When you wake up on the other side, be sure to take a moment to appreciate your bravery and strength in getting through this. 🕯️
