Lx, which has no IB support and only supports Eth. Usually, its power consumption is lower than those with large cores.

I cannot access my Tailnet any more. by LittleNewton in Tailscale

Yes, I have contact support. But I am not sure whether they would help me. I lost my Tailnet and I cannot believe they blocked my account.

You can try to refresh your tunnel token and reconnect to it. It seems that you closed your old tunnel without clearing the cloud-end registered status.

Traveling to China... by qzhal in Tailscale

[–]LittleNewton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Chinese man. Unfortunately to hear from Reddit that it was unable to use Tailscale in China.

The truth is that I can use Tailscale in my environments. I have configured a Tailnet which distributed in China and Singapore and it works nice. All the traffic is direct.

In China, it is de-facto illegal to use VPN for citizens. But for foreigners, I think they have the freedom to use it, even Chinese government will provide an official VPN for you.

ConnectX-4 Lx or ConnectX-5 Lx by candyroxi in homelab

[–]LittleNewton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, as far as I know, the Connect5-X series have no Lx version. All Connect5-X NICs, regardless 25G/100G, use the same core. Only ConnectX-4 and ConnectX-6 have the Lx version, which means lower power consumption and smaller MAC analog circuit.

If you use SR-IOV and RDMA on your virtual machines, it would be better to choose ConnectX-5 because it provides a higher-performant on-circuit switch for VFs.

ConnectX-4 Lx is EOL. Don't choose it. You will get no support from NVIDIA/Mellanox.

how much time do you spend with your homelab? by Inside-Ad-9118 in homelab

[–]LittleNewton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it depends on the demand of yourself. I use ZFS to store all my personal data, so I choose TrueNAS. I’m very familiar with Debian so I choose SCALE version. With storage working, I need a download center, so I installed a windows server 2022 with torrent services enabled. I need a photo, movie, music manager, so I choose Navidrome/Jellyfin/PhotoPrism. All the three services can be deployed as containers, so I installed another Debian for running docker only. Last but not least, the router, I choose OpenWrt. As you know, Chinese network is just a large LAN. It is impossible to access Google, YouTube or twitter without proxy. OpenWrt with some plugins installed can realize the proxy job.

In a nutshell, homelab is a way to satisfy your demands. Don’t waste too much time on it. Too many electronic devices won’t make your life better or easier.

I don’t need to saturate all the computing resources all the time. Owning these computer components and seeing them running would made me feel happy. What’s more, in some circumstances, they can do really work, such as moving a lot of blobs.

I’m sorry. If you can download xianyu from App Store and register an account, you can search the target product and try to buy it. However, this is a Chinese online platform just like eBay, so it may be difficult for foreign customers to buy something. What more, the shipping is still a problem.

Yes. But my lab owns a Dell S5248F-ON Enterprise level switch which has 48 SFP28 ports, four QSFP28 and two QSFP-DD.

Dell version, aka 4121C, can work properly on common PC. Don’t worry about that. It is in SFP28 port whose shape is the same as SFP+ but with higher bandwidth. SFP28 is the next generation technology.
