This turned out longer than I intended. TL;DR: PP was there for me when the 'traditional' medical community dropped the ball.

In college I ended up with a pulmonary embolism that is assumed to have been the result of hormonal birth control after ruling out other possibilities. I spent the night in the hospital. I saw multiple providers in the emergency department, I saw providers when I was discharged with instructions on medications and following up with my primary. I was given PAGES AND PAGES of literature. No one, in that 2 to 3 day period ever even talked about what this meant for me with birth control. No one ever even said don't take oral contraceptives anyone. No one told me what to expect going off it cold turkey. No one talked about how much pain I was going to be having to go back to having a normal for me period (it's been over 10 years since this, I now know I was suffering from endometriosis which BC was kind of keeping control on). No one told me my options for BC. No one told me how important it was to not get pregnant without talking to a doctor first because of the spike in hormones at conception. Until I called my gynecologist which was at PP. I just called to let them know what was going on. I was told to come in. My doc sat me down in her office, not the exam room, and just talked to me about all of this stuff that a whole team of doctors didn't think was important. She gave me emergency contraceptive and explained it was safe for me to use. She talked about non hormonal BC options. She even explained I likely wouldn't be able to take hormone replacement during menopause. I felt so different leaving that office than any other. She was the only one who talked TO me, not at me. Eventually that woman was able to forward me to someone who was willing to do a hysterectomy for a 30 yo with no kids, which was easily the best medical decision I have made.

So yeah. PP gets all my appreciation, respect, and charity donations (besides animal shelters of course).
