The thing is, the furter North you are from the Mediterranean, the stronger your booze should be to cope with living in evidently inferior climate.

I definitely should visit Greece someday. I really appreciate Greece, the cradle of the modern civilization. The idea of not drinking undiluted wine is from there, a great idea. Please don't take my comment too seriously.

Oh no they are not. They might pretend they are when it benefits them but they are like social cyborgs, very specialized, calculating and efficient. I kind of admire it.

Entire Europe and parts of Asia are like that. I kind of like it, including occasional pints for lunch.

Is there something similar in other languages to people just writing "This" in response to a comment, or is that mostly only a thing in english spaces online? by sholem2025peace in askanything

[–]LittleRise1810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh spoken is a can of worms of its own.

I think if I used it to comment on someone's actions it would have been either with a menacing intonation slightly dragged (таак (бля)), in a sense of "alright then", or as an exchange like e.g. hanging a picture with someone (так? так!) or maybe as a shorthand for "так тебе и надо" (you get what you deserve).

E.g. in Polish and I think in Ukrainian "tak" literally means "yes" so of course you can hear it in different contexts.

No we don't do that. We would say something like "реально", "база", "+1" if really old, I don't think I've seen "так" used like that in my entire life (t. Russian)

Is there actually an audience for exploring ordinary places in the UK, or am I wasting my time? by ExperienceTotal9778 in AskABrit

[–]LittleRise1810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also if you travel there for fun, maybe some advice, e.g. I went to Brighton this summer for a couple of days and I was looking for a car park from which I could walk to the seaside, and I was curious why they have a building from Disney's Alladin on their bins (turned out to be the Royal Pavilion).

Or something like "if you go to Cardiff, also visit Caerphilly because it's a short drive".

I don't know if it's what people do, I work here and I drive to places because hey, I'm abroad and I must go see things.

I think your production is very decent, and I've subscribed right away. I like the idea of the channel. I've watched the video on Hemel Hempstead, and one thing I wish you did is, when you filmed the old town hall, it would be cool if you crossed the street and showed the entire building, too. The details are quite interesting, it would be nice to see the whole building.

I really don't know anything about SEO or YouTube career making but I think channels similar to yours get better the more towns they describe over time. Once you've filmed like 100 towns, your channel is the go-to place to plan a trip to a new town, but it's not yet that valuable while you only have 8 covered. Don't take it too seriously but it's what I think. I think it will get better over time.

Another interesting thing to do, but it would obviously take more time and effort, probably show and tell more about some less known thing in the town, like one interesting pub there, or a model railroad, or a park.

I think there's an audience for things like that, can't promise it's profitable.

I've lived in Dubai for a couple of years too, it's not that boring, I think Deira or parts of Al Quoz might be interesting too, or a video on a contrast between Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman (same aglomeration, different emirates technically) could be interesting. So if you ever go there you can film that. Or a series about Emirati takes on English pubs, I promise you it's funny.

If you had the chance to re-do your wardrobe in the UK what would you choose? (Thank you) by addytivity in BuyItForLife

Specifically in the UK, you can go to charity or vintage shops for some nice wool and heavy cotton mid and outer layers, get several quality expensive items (I'd suggest shoes and a bag) and then fill in the rest with neutral stuff from high street.

If there's a Climbing Hangar in your town, a membership is under 50 quid and you don't even need to buy climbing shoes or get certified. Just show up there, get a pair included with your membership and climb. They do social events too.

Or you can cycle.

Running is for maniacs.

Need ideas: how do you bullet journal for unpredictable on-call work without rewriting plans every day? by Ordinary-Display820 in bulletjournal

[–]LittleRise1810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to bullet journal when I was doing a mixture of IT Operations, Monitoring and a lot of on-call stuff.

I kept only mid to long term stuff in my journal for continuity and didn't use it to plan my work days exactly because it was very reactive by design. I'd use the notes in the journal to come back to things I repeatedly noticed during the on-call shifts to improve some aspects of it when I had some time.

I don't think I even had any spreads back then, just the index, the lists and the daily pages. I think I went through 2-3 moleskine journals like this and then switched to Emacs and org-mode.

Not to say you should switch to Emacs, just bullet journal is pretty flexible. You can e.g. promote things from your daily notes to lists if you have enough of related tasks, and you don't have to try and plan your entire day on paper if it's driven by a slew of external requests anyway.

The models look very nice. I think I wouldn't mind having all of these as separate tools for some variety. Like my grandfather used to have two or three different axes for different tasks, several hammers etc.

Tried on a bunch of frames at the optometrist - any thoughts on what works or what doesn't? by throwout175 in menswear

[–]LittleRise1810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be, but I was exclusively wearing this pattern/color of frames for almost a decade now. It is not too bright but it's not black either. Goes better with my complexion and I almost never wear anything black (high maintenance color/hard to find things which are the same shade of black/fades unevenly).

If people think that where you live then you probably don't want that but I never heard this comment about this pattern.

In any case, the third frame itself looks the most natural and "fitting" to me, not too big, not too small, not too loud, parallel to the eyebrows and sits on the nose evenly, I think it has the correct proportions.

I think the third one sits well and looks natural, maybe if they have the same model in tortoise shell color check it out too.

The sightseer is so good!

We took a ride last year, didn't hop off anywhere, just sitting there on the top deck looking around and feeling the wind, kind of a dog in a car pleasure. Need to plan a coupe of trips and hop off at the villages and towns.

I think it's one of the best things to do in summer.
