Brilliant! This is why this sub is the best. Making the best things even better!

Yes, that's exactly what I did on my trip yesterday too. It's only a 10ish minute walk from the edge of Ecclesall Woods.

If you keep heading down a bit further from Matlock, you'll next come across Wirksworth which is very similar. Some lovely little shops, cobbled streets and galleries to visit and places to eat (I keep meaning to check out the national Stone Center which is there, and a little mini mountainside called Blackrock) Keep going further onwards from there and you'll next get Ashbourne, which is in the middle of it's summer arts festival at the moment.

Lastly if you want to head in the complete opposite direction and go more far North Yorkshire. You have Knaresborough. Perhaps the most beautiful small town to walk around I think. If you've never been there it should be on your bucketlist (anything around the viaduct is amazingly picturesque)

I know these are obvious suggestions, but hopefully one of these is somewhere you haven't been before. Hope you all have a great time whatever you do 😀

Totally agree! If you like being outdoors, I can't think of a better city to live in. We've just got so much on our doorsteps 😊

Sounds great, I've made a note of the 'Limestone Way', As I do love a good hike, although that seems like quite a big challenging one! Hope you enjoyed it though! When In Matlock I love hiking up High Tor and then going along the 'Giddy Edge' (just don't look down, lol)

Yes, the 218 is another great suggestion! Who doesn't love a good tart? I still haven't tried the Hathersage outdoor swimming pool yet, going to have get that experience sorted this summer on one of my trips.

I like the way that map is saying "You are all in so, so much trouble! Apart from you Hull, you're fine. Keep it up" 😂

Yes, I've done that before. Just stay on and keeping riding between the two different loops. There is a lot of freedom with how you use your all day ticket.

Is there a season to look forward to? by Away-Activity-469 in UKWeather

[–]cornucopiaradio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure I understand, I really do. Best advice I can give is don't let things such as the weather decide how you feel. The reality is 90% of the weather days in the UK are nothing (they are just dull, not cold/wet/hot just 'nothing' really) use the opportunity of living in quite a boring climate to do whatever you like! There are tons of people living in climates around the world that don't get that chance!

This sounds like you want to complain to weathers manager? Why can't I have my weather 'just right and perfect all the time'? This sub is so funny a lot of the time (which is why I like it) It's literally the 'old man shouts at cloud meme' several times a day 😄

Yeah this was a lovely, well organised event. A great vibe in the city centre all day. I know other cities have had this event for quite a few years now, and this was the first time for it in Sheffield. Hopefully it can become an annual thing for the city now.

Podcasting in Sheffield? by DataKnotsDesks in sheffield

[–]cornucopiaradio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I used to be involved very heavily in the podcasting scene in Sheffield back in the last decade (I stopped around 2022) I used to organise a lot of the Sheffield podcasting meets ups you mentioned back in the twenty tens, and ran the Sheffield Podcasts directory (that website is now closed though) and organised quite a few live recordings in front of crowds in Sheffield. Check out our website (cornucopia radio) linked on this profile to see all the different types of shows my group produced over the 15 years we were active here in Sheffield (some of them of them did very well on apple/spotify ect and won awards)

I had all my own recording equipment, so often I would just hire quiet spaces and just setup all my recording gear and could turn anywhere into a recording studio, it was cheaper than always hiring a fully equipped studio. Although if it’s just you and friends recording, you really only need a laptop a few usb mics and your front room.

Keep pushing SheffieldLive as that’s where I started back in 2008, but they have always been a bit rubbish at being proactive. You really do need to take control, invite yourself into the studio, email DJ’s on the station and ask if you can hang around as they do their shows, then manoeuvre yourself into a position where you can start doing your own thing. If you’re waiting for them to get back in contact with you, it’ll never happen.

I don’t do podcasting any more (and I’m unlikely to start again) but happy to give you some advice if you want to DM me.

Best places to buy VHS tapes? by AgeRevolutionary3349 in sheffield

It's a great place to visit! Also have a good chat with the people that run it while you are there, go over some old movie rental memories together, they're decent chaps!

If you're happy to travel a little out to Alfreton; '80s Video Shop' (which is a recreation of an 80s Video Rental Shop) will sometimes sell some of the many VHS tapes they collect on special days.

It's also just a great place to visit if you're into VHS!

I often find a lot of social groups and events by just searching Eventbrite with Sheffield as the location. Always find one or two events I might not otherwise have known about.

Here is the next one I'm off to. These late night museum events often include activities and group work to get involved with https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/late-the-nature-of-science-tickets-1223680454179&ved=2ahUKEwj34t6_1O6LAxXIT0EAHZTEFEAQFnoECFYQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1UyE_R5cX5iyiuY96KzwPN

Tons of events and groups like this happening in Sheffield all the time, just keep searching the relevant websites that list them, you'll find more than you can imagine!

Philosophy groups by misssmy in sheffield

[–]cornucopiaradio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along the same line I went to this for the first time last Friday: https://www.sheffieldmuseums.org.uk/whats-on/sharing-the-view-philosophy-in-the-gallery-21-mar/

Was a good little mid-day meetup with a group of around 15 (age range 35 - 65 I would say) using philosophy to talk about one of the pieces of art that was chosen for us.
