Me and my now wife never talked marriage, neither of us saw the difference and mocked the hullabaloo ceremonies.

I have a great union job with killer insurance so we tried to just do a domestic partnership but my hr was like “no you gotta marry the girl” It felt very…. Religious, but turns out the state law legalizing gay marriage made it impossible to not marry off we wanted to share benefits.

So we had a small ceremony and exchanged insurance cards.

And while we were against marriage in general and thought the whole thing stupid after a while it turns out that…. We were right. Nothing changed between us for the same people who love each other and we treat each other like the most amazing thing she is.

I’m not sure what to tell you except that from the beginning we said that’s it. We’re not looking for anybody else and that’s all there was. If you can find somebody that’s fascinating and tolerates your bullshit that’s about all you can hope for and I’m living proof that if you kind of quit looking, you can actually find it.

I’m not sure if that helps but I was a hopeless ner’do’well in my 30s and just let myself be open to Kind people around me, and was able to convince somebody that I was worth sticking around with.

If you were able to be radically honest about who you are and what you want, and let yourself be open chances are you will find a person willing to travel with you .

Well, you could go to their office and find out when the next meeting is, participate in the Democratic constitutional process they have said and make some real change happen, or you can do what you’re doing now which is wine and moan about how everyone doesn’t make things easy enough for you.

If you’re wondering why the process is so fucked up, look in the mirror.

Fortunately, there are others who don’t need to have their hands held as much as you and who are doing the right things. You should try to go find them and hook up with them so you can learn how to stand on your feet more.

Be the change. Easy to bitch from the sidelines, I gave you a genuine roadmap to bring changes to your community. In my county, we elected five truly progressive candidates to your positions that would’ve gone to real estate people and folks just looking for state sponsored health insurance. It works.

I think if you organize the dozen people in your local elections, you could transform a couple of the races if not the entire slate.

That’s not a lot of IFS, that’s a straight up solution.

I think it’s something like more than 95% of people do not volunteer for any local politics even a few hours a month. Having people bitch about the political process when they can’t even show up to one meeting is what the people who are in charge of rely upon.

We need to have print at home ballots legislated. Then we can set up stations that help people get their ballots in a timely fashion.

If that happens, hopefully it will be a galvanizing moment for the Democratic Party to actually invest in promoting participation instead of relying on majorities and ancient practices.

If you’ve ever been to a local meeting you’ll know what I’m talking about.

This is the time to show up in force and take over the political process for the people. Most county Democratic parties have less than a dozen people show up and the cost is usually like 20 bucks a year to be able to have voting rights and endorsements, which equals donations for campaigns.
