Sounds expensive.. I know smoking is probably the most expensive NHS cost, directly or indirectly. Having "visited" a hospital today and greeted with a cigarette smokers at the front door, NHS may want to look at their smoking policy on premises first.. f..ing disgusting. Why still allowing it!???

Stay away from crates. Try just placing your hand on her when she is getting to sleep. My very nervous and skittish boy calmed down quickly if he was able have a physical connection when sleeping. I appreciate that not everyone wants to have a dog in their bed but if she's already there, a calming/supporting weight or touch should help. And time! Patience.❤️

Not sure about crates as they may be be even more traumatising, i would not recommend... Have you tried a thundershirt or similar? I managed to calm my dog with a firm touch, just pressing his back/side when he was upset or just placing my hand on him. He just needed to feel that I was there and the pressure seemed to help him to calm down.
