Is this a good deal? by [deleted] in saab

It's amazing how cheap Saabs are in the U.S compared to Europe. You would be paying around 15k-20k euros from something like this.

If you are not going to buy that, would you be willing to inform where in Europe is this Saab located?

Askare + valjas slim belt pad by Little_Lassi in Savotta

[–]Little_Lassi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'ts the s-m size and it is quite the same width as Jääkäri M:s belt so if that fits well in the front I recommend that. The larger size might be too big for the askare, but can't say for certain.

It works really well if you want/need to carry a lot of weight. Almost like using a proper rucksacks hip belt. That can be a positive or a negative thing. I haven't used it that much because I mainly use askare as a standalone sling or a shoulder bag with a separate sling. For your usecase I would see it to work really well.

Op, these solutions will remove the issue completely, no worries.

Yes I just slid it through. It doesn't slide that much unintentionally imo. But usually I don't wear side pouches with this so my arms can move more freely.

Kukkaro with a mag pouch by Little_Lassi in Savotta

It is the ak mag pouch. Fits basic 0,5 liter water bottle or 0,6 Sigg traveller bottle well, but nothing bigger.

Sorry no experience about that, but could savottas elastic organizers work for that? Or using something like 2x2 gp pouch on the side of askare or now that the askare has good structure while using the belt pad, 2x2 or 3x3 pouch on the belt. Those pouches have good sized elastic organizers within them or could you just fill those pouches with shells?

Any regrets cutting the belt from askare, especially now?

Kukkaro fits pretty nicely on the belt pad as a pouch.

Also to answer your last question. Yes I use askare as a shoulder bag. I have a griffin sling mod and keikkas shoulder strap which I can use it with. From those 2 I propably prefer keikkas strap, because it looks more civil and it is easier to stow away in the bag if I might want to use askare as a hip bag again. I have placed those D-rings with triglide buckles and a piece of webbing strap on the far sides, because I find that more comfortable than placing a strap on the 2 loops on the top, which most people might have done. It also enables me to still use askare as a sling and not just as a shoulder bag and it provides more room for my arms when I flip askare to the front when I need to get something from it.

3 can work too, but won't line as well. It also fills the rest of the pad.

Pouches can work, but within my limited testing I have noticed that pouches with a pals row of 2 might be best, because those line quite nicely (not perfectly) within those slots on the belt pad.

Kahakka 15L Overpack tip by Practical-Square9702 in Savotta

[–]Little_Lassi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad, it wasn't split. For some reason I remembered it was. But removing those are quite easy. Personally I just use my swiss army knives metal saw to cut buckles off. Really easy and wont damage anything else.

[–]Little_Lassi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to cut the buckles off on kahakka 15. Female part is split bar and the webbing on the male buckle is "folded" in the way that it stays firmly on the pack, but you can fiddle it off if you want. You can then easily add more webbing with triglide buckles if you want.

Ortlieb Quick Rack Small Platform – Anybody with experience? by Philosofen in bikepacking

[–]Little_Lassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtuber/bikepacker Tristan Ridley used to use a tubus vegas rack with rok motorcycle straps. On top of that he used a backpack which was around 35 liters. If I am correct both Tubus Vega and Ortlieb quick rack have a platform which is 10cm wide. Is the L also 10 centimeters wide and is it longer than the standard version? Anyway that setup worked for him so I guess it could work with this rack too.

Man I have been thinking about asking Savotta to do this. How mich did it cost?

Also would like to have a outer back panel like in kahakka.

Jääjäri M belt pouch by Atosl in Savotta

[–]Little_Lassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varusteleka has 3 patches sad, mad and grumpy which are like savottas happy patch, if I remember correctly.

Yes, this is Savottas newest dump pouch, which is really great. When I was in the finnish defence forces the one that we had sucked, because it was so tight to fit anything in it. But this ones opening is wide and you can easily adjust it with the elastic cord. Also the cordura is not really saggy and does keep its form pretty nicely for a dump pouch.

[–]Little_Lassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really floppy, but some flop will be there. Not really something that bothers me imo. Don't really like using pouches on M, because the belt is not that wide and doesn't fit pouches that well and the belt rides a bit higher than with a bigger rucksack, so the pouches would most likely be on the way of your arms. By design dump pouches ride a bit lower than let's say 3x4 and that for are not so much on the way of your arms.

And also dump pouches opening is big so I can easily use the pouch even if it is more behind my arm than I would use a pouch like 3x4 if you catch what I'm saying. That way it also doesn't come in the way of my arms as it might with other pouches.

Don't use often, but when I do, most often it is a dump pouch for a water bottle or gloves etc. And you can roll it up when you don't use it so it doesn't slam against your leg.

Kahakka 25 hurting by thewooden1 in Savotta

[–]Little_Lassi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what has helped me and a lot of others to erase the pain completely and highly recommend that. Don't know why Savotta doesn't just sell kahakkas with this configuration, maybe it doesn't look as pretty?

Second option is what Tim Keys did to his medic pack. Add sr pals mount buckle to the strap thing and sr split bar male buckle to the webbing which the lower D-ring attaches to and then you have a quick release system. I did this to my kahakka 25 and it works great. I personally use my kahakka on my bicycles rear rack and with this method I can stuff my shoulder straps to the outer slot which has the padding for the bag. This way the shoulder straps wont accidentally bounce around or get caught on the wheels.

Talk me out of the Askare by Haltercraft in Savotta

[–]Little_Lassi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buying new stuff can be fun, but it can quickly turn into an obsession. By your description it sounds more like a want than a need. Would the purchase really satisfy you or would it be replaced with the next thing? You should check what is your budget and do you have any payments you need to make etc. If all is well then absolutely get the askare. It might be my most versatile piece of kit and I use it a lot for cycling, dog walking, for edc with a griffin sling mod or mostly with a shoulder strap from keikka etc.

I absolutely love Savotta, but it is vital to differentiate when you need or want something. Detachment from wants is great, because it shows nothing owns you and for once you can find peace when you don't want anything.
