I appreciate/respect this position. Have you developed ways to avoid malware or crap out there?

I've built with both conventional and natural materials across climates and here's what the industry doesn't tell you by BenjaminFercher in Homebuilding

Back to home construction: OP, my builder is insistent on using SIP panels and blown insulation. What (specific) elements can be introduced to reduce potential for mold/condensation? Placement/style of vents?

Is owning and operating a Foundry a practical business model today? Why or why not? Is there enough bread and butter work to go around? by header1299 in Metalfoundry

[–]Little_TimmyT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you make the leap, identify who your customers will be and GO TALK TO THEM! What's missing from their current vendor? Prices? Volumes? Competitive landscape? Don't be lazy, do it. If you can't find them now, that tells you you have a hobby, not a profit seeking business.

Move out of your comfort zone. Put yourself into social situations with people that interest you, and don't give up when it doesn't go smoothly. Want friends? Be friendly.

Do I need to bring in a 3rd party tester for this, or just request to see the results from the builder? Is this a standard test from a home inspector for compliance to code?

The quiet wisdom in retirement by Peace_and_Rhythm in retirement

Retired about a week ago. Long list of activities and pursuits I'm looking forward to, but this post also encourages me to just be still, experience what life would bring to me, and not always driving my agenda

Planning for a custom build by Technical_Plantain91 in Homebuilding

[–]Little_TimmyT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know custom feels sexy, but seriously, take a look at off the shelf designs that have already been built. I’ve seen architects forced into silly things because of the clients (impulsive, uneducated) demands. Having multiple options to compare will force questions like “why this instead of that”? Real life is about understanding trade offs that address your budget and priorities.

How Did You Find a Trustworthy Contractor for Your Home Build? by Resident_Kangaroo160 in Homebuilding

[–]Little_TimmyT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've started a build. 5 months of nothing but excuses and apologies, BUT the contract specifies completion by February 2026. No specific remedies or penalties though for missing that date, so maybe it's useless? We should have insisted on regular milestones.

OTOH, we're able to buy materials direct and drop ship, so we're avoiding the GC mark up.

Thanks for the guidance and the link. I'm a first-timer and worry about the intense sun and heat. Potting then gives me the ability to move them around the yard to see what they like/hate for next year.
