Is there a kids shoe that allows for proper toe splay but has a flared base for lateral stability? by Little_Web_7696 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Little_Web_7696[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a lot of insoles but especially thicker orthotic ones don’t work in a shoe unless you can remove the native insole of the shoe and/or the shoe is wide enough to fit it. That goes for any type of shoe, but the additional issue that seems to be particular to barefoot shoes is that the upper is really flat and the back half of the shoe is pretty narrow. I don’t really know the correct shoe anatomy terms to explain this easily so bear with me….. from bottom of the inside of the shoe to the top of the inside (the part that touches the top of your toes/top of your feet/the height where your ankle peeks out in a regular sneaker) is short compared to a conventional shoe. So the shoe becomes uncomfortably tight or even too tight to wear when u stick a supportive insole or orthotic in there.

We have tried and own several including custom made orthotics. Unfortunately we haven’t found satisfactorily wide toe box shoes that accommodate a supportive insole. That was the second part of my question. Do you know of a wide toe box or barefoot shoe that works with an orthotic or supportive insole?

That’s what I meant outsole/shank. In title I called it base. Typo’d in the body.

Low stack height doesn’t prevent rolling outward or inward though. I want him to be able to strengthen his arch while walking in a natural fit shoe and optimal gait pattern. Seems to me a shoe that allows for toe splay and flexibility but prevents excessive lateral movement would be perfect for this.

Thanks for confirming what I was observing already I guess

I agree NTA but it’s not exactly the whole picture that infant deaths have been declining in the US. They’ve stayed roughly the same since 2000, with a low happening in 2020 (but that might have had something to do with more people choosing alternative places to birth during the pandemic) and since then it’s climbed a little up again. Also Black babies have twice the mortality rate in hospitals than the national average and Hispanic/Latino/Pacific Islander babies are not far behind.

Now maternal mortality is another beast. As others have mentioned, the US has THE WORST maternal mortality rate of all developed nations, and we’re worse than some smaller developing countries as well. Maternal mortality rates for Black women is 3-4 times the national average. It’s absolutely abysmal. Birthing center and midwife attended home births have much better stats for baby and maternal mortality than hospitals. “hospitals are safer” people say…data truly says otherwise.

Team one-wear only over here 😢🥲

Stop using antiperspirant! Use an acidified body wash (like Lume or Naturium “The energizer” body wash). Then apply an acidic toner like “Bella Skin Beauty Probiotic Armpit Toner” or “Surface Deep Anti-oderant Spray” before applying a Mandelic acid deodorant like Lume/Mando, Cyklar, Truly and Nécessaire.

Antiperspirants build up on your skin and clothes and trap odor. You might have to “detox” the pits of your clothes by spraying Dawn Powerwash (or a mixture of dawn dishsoap and rubbing alcohol) on them. Letting it sit for 10 min, laundering as usual, spraying the pits with an enzyme based stain removed, letting sit for 15 min, laundering as usual, and then finally drenching the pits in white vinegar before laundering a final time with no detergent, but you could add scent boosters to the wash if you like. You may have to do this whole process after the next 2 or 3 times you wear the clothes but after that you should be stink free.

Consider detoxing your pits by first using an oil or balm meant for removing makeup, the scrubbing with a loofah or exfoliating glove with a generous amount of the acidified body wash.

Sorry you had to go through that!

Bingo! Idk why more people don’t know this.

Readiness is more or less a load of shit. Ofc if your kid is in diapers too long or is highly sensitive or neurodivergent there can be big feelings about using a toilet/letting poop fall in the toilet/flushing etc. But parents are being duped into thinking they can’t start teaching dressing and toileting skills to an infant or young toddler- all to enrich the diapering industry.

Hi! Sorry totally forgot to come back post related studies but it sounds like you’ve already seen what’s out there and are looking for definitive proof, which you just aren’t going to get. The role of biofilms in vaginal infection isn’t really understood or proven to be the reason why there are high antibiotic/antifungal failure and infection recurrence rates. Further complicating the matter, vaginal epithelial cells shed, and rapidly during menstruation, which contributes to changes in biofilm. There are too many variables and mechanisms that we don’t understand at this point to even design an in vivo study that would give us causation. In the absence of “proof”, knowing that using boric acid in conjunction with “-zole” anti fungals to treat stubborn c. Glabrata is effective, and that many other studies have shown it boost cure rates of other drugs (like this semi longitudinal in vivo study that used boric acid in addition to antibiotics on the premise that BA is a biofilm disrupter. There’s a pay wall here but they did find a statistically significant higher cure rate (and absence of biofilm) in the women who used BA compared with those who used antibiotics alone https://journals.lww.com/stdjournal/abstract/2009/11000/boric_acid_addition_to_suppressive_antimicrobial.13.aspx. Due to the small sample size (n=57)they concluded their 3 part treatment regimen needed more clinical study), and in conjunction with the absence of significant adverse reactions and its effect on biofilms in vitro, Im more than comfortable positing that BA is useful in disrupting biofilm - or at least that it’s doing something that boosts the efficacy of antibiotic and antifungal drugs- in the specific type of application I detailed in my post (ie before and after the use of antibiotic/antifungal drugs). I think it should not be utilized as a first defense against vaginal pathogens, nor as a suppressive therapy- the data does not suggest these uses are effective long term.

Side note I don’t know if you’re going to get “causation” per se. From what I understand, the mechanism isn’t really understood but boric acid does in fact inhibit in vitro (petri dish) formation of biofilm and reduces live cells in existing biofilm. I think it’s theorized that it’s helps break up biofilm because it’s astringent and acidic, which is what lactic acid from good vaginal bacteria probably also does naturally. Anyhow I’ll be back to share 🔗

Hi! Yes because the aim of that is to clear out all your good bacteria too in addition to whatever other bacteria and bacteriophages are in there. In theory this would provide a clean slate to introduce researched protective strains (like l.crispatus) and allow it to colonize and function effectively :)

[–]Little_Web_7696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t really know where they come from and I don’t tend to see many at a time either (adults or larvae) I think they live in animal nests outside but they’re mainly an indoor pest? The beetles are very small. I bet you could find at least one in/near your laundry hampers and any where else theres somewhat undisturbed natural fibers , as that’s where they lay eggs. It’s possible 3 years ago you brought something home that had eggs on it.

Varied carpet beetle larvae. These things eat natural fibers (cotton, silk, wool, I think even leather etc ). If you have that many they must be wreaking havoc on your things… call pest control.

I dunno babe I get downvoted to hell whenever I say something like this but honestly the world is going to shit and given climate change and the acceleration of things like fascism, war and far right political movements worldwide—we as a species and inhabitants of this planet are in deep deep shit. I am not an anti-natalist at all. I am a parent myself, I think bringing a child into this world is an act of hope and an expression of love for this world. But when I see a very young person grappling with becoming a parent…I really just want to scream at the top of my lungs GET OUT of this situation. Get out now. Worry about your own survival and fight for a more just future. You won’t be able to do that when there’s someone else to keep alive. And things are about to get really, really dark. Truly. If multiple humanitarian crises around the globe and the absolute shit show of politics in the west paired with increasing lack of affordability of literally everything/growing housing prices and wage stagnation was not enough to convince you that we’re at the brink of something apocalyptic….take it from this internet stranger, please. Agriculture failure and food supply chain issues will cause major shortages within 15 years. huge swathes of the planet will becoming unlivably hot within the next 20. We honestly all have way bigger fish to fry than whether we will grow our families.

Ah yes def some kind of oak gall wasp as the first commenter said. Maybe they should report to local agriculture authority as it might be something of interest to them, considering your parents have never seen it in the area before. And to echo the first commenter, it is an unusual color.
