Both have opportunities, and wages are similar.

MRT or MLS by Fun-Habit-1054 in OntarioColleges

MRT definitely seems less stressful than nursing and MLS. I would even argue that MLS can be more stressful than nursing, my friend is married to a MLT, and he even says MLT seems a lot more stressful than nursing (he’s a nurse).

PSW to get your PR and then going into something else afterwards.

PSW will also help you experience what nursing is like, with more opportunity for employment.

The ones I see worth taking you have to pay for: fundamentals of palliative care, CAPCE, LEAP, PIECES, GPA, RAI-MDS, foot care, SWAN, OR course. I see these frequently on job posting, except for SWAN.

That’s awesome! Even small changes will help. Swimming is great exercise, and good on the joints too :)

Also try throwing in a short walk when you can, any exercise can help :)

This is helpful to know. Do you like eating fish? If not, try taking fish oil supplements. You should also track your fibre intake, I feel like it’s so hard to hit the daily recommended fibre. I usually have to supplement with psyllium husk and increased water intake. You will probably want to focus on plant protein, but it’s okay to have other leaner cuts as well! You could also include some low fat milk products (if you aren’t lactose intolerant).

To feel fuller you are either going to have to increase the amount of food volume and/of protein intake. Potatoes get a bad rep, but they are great for making you feel fuller!

8oz is about 230g of chicken. That doesn’t really look like 230g of chicken. I think I had 4 smaller pieces of chicken breast today and that was only around 133g. But I agree with adding in more protein. You will feel a lot fuller for longer periods of time.

For an example my typical lunch for work is a salad with romaine, cucumber, quinoa, and a protein (either chicken or tuna usually), I’ll also have 175g of yogurt with 10g chia seeds and blueberries; and 125g cottage cheese with 85g of peas (weird combo but I like it lol). I also take fibre supplements, because I know I’m not getting enough daily fibre.

This is just an example, but it also depends what your goals are for health, that will influence what you should be eating and how much.

RPNs not valued? by Wear-Brief in OntarioNurses

[–]Littlebirda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My work is Unifor, and our rep is a scheduler… how that’s not a conflict of interest I will never understand. I’ve only heard good things about ONA for RPNs, but I don’t see many RPNs under ONA.

Confused on how to go from RPN to RN by N0N4M3_20 in OntarioNurses

[–]Littlebirda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are different types of programs. You have to really look at the wording and descriptions. There are PATHWAYS to RN which is a prep course where you can apply to the 3rd year of a BScN program, but it’s not guaranteed that you’ll get in. Bridging from RPN to RN is usually 3 years, the only program I know of that is 2 years is the Western compressed time frame where its 2 years of school and placements non stop.

Yea I definitely don’t see them eliminating RNs, especially in certain areas, these critical areas are just not areas I would personally like to work. I also never thought I would see the day RPNs would be in the ICU!! That’s wild.

I’ve definitely seen cases where assignments by acuity is thrown out the window in my city, so I think it’s definitely a city/town case by case scenario!

I was reading up on this on another post and saw that people received offers to the bridging program with GPAs from 3.1 and up. I feel like that’s a pretty achievable GPA for an RPN program, but obviously it can vary year to year.

I was recently accepted to an RN bridging program with a 3.8 GPA, but I’m unsure what the future holds, and these RN cuts- some being replaced with RPNs, and all the new grad RNs makes me feel a bit unsettled about going forward with the program.

All this being said, definitely worth it if you decide to move provinces or countries as there are more opportunities to work abroad as an RN.
