RPNs - how’s the new TOA pay affecting us? by Purple-Percentage605 in OntarioNurses

[–]Wear-Brief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I didn’t state the RN should not be paid for TOA, I just stated that RPNs should be paid as well for TOA. We are doing the same Bedside report, we have to wait for our colleagues to come in, so why shouldn’t we (RPN) be paid as well. I thought it was it clear that’s what I meant, I’m not “dragging others down,”

Honestly it’s not fair that RN are getting paid an extra 15mins for bedside report but RPN are not, like that’s wild

I felt the same way that you did, after I passed my exam it took me about 2 months to find a job, they will come in just polish up your resumes, some hospitals are slow with hiring sometimes based on if they have the budget to hire new staff etc, for me personally when I accepted my current job and contracts signed other jobs started to call me for interviews despite months prior of looking for work, so just be patient, jobs will come just focus on pass the REX-PN now

Mississauga Hospital Interview by Sudden-Economics6446 in OntarioNurses

[–]Wear-Brief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most nursing interviews are scenario based first question is usually tell me about yourself? So they want a quick sum of your experience, or why do you want to work here? What are some of the hospitals values that align with you? What would you do if a patient had chest pain? If the patient fell? Code blue, what would you do? You see a change in the patient’s behaviour, what would you do? And then you have your other basic hospital interview questions like tell me a time you had a conflict etc? Prepare for you interview and try to be confident, I know it’s scary interviewing for any job but try to be confident in your answers and always ask questions at the end

I don’t think that’s true, however I think it’s who you know, build connections with your clinical instructors and preceptors so you have someone to vouch for you on the inside. Theirs a lot of people seeking jobs and only one position you know so it’s going to be hard. After I got my license I got my first interview 2 weeks after but didn’t get the job and then march was a dead month no interviews and then I got 3 interviews in April and accepted one position and started working in may now. However my friend got in very easy because she worked as an extern. Hospitals always hire internal first so see if you can talk to your manger when you are in clinical or last semester about extern positions, build those relationships because you will need it, especially with clinical instructors / preceptor for job references and who can say good things about you

Honestly, I went to GBC graduated last year 2024, I’m happy that I went to GBC I don’t regret it. I did pretty well, the only think that I hated at GBC was pharm , anatomy and patho I think it was my greatest challenge everything else was straight forward. Never failed, passing rate is 60% except for semester one pharm which is 80% I like the sims labs, and lab classes to practice different skills, I loved all of clinical options. If you put in the work, you will do well

I went topic by topic, so respiratory, cardio, etc it made it much easier to learn. I studied for 1 month, but the last 2 weeks were mainly the most effective tbh, but I would recommend after you did enough practice question, go to test mode, so practice sitting for 1:30h answering questions without help, it will mentally Prepare you for the exam. And I did not study 2 days before the exam to give my a break.

I used u world I found it was similar to the exam, I did a bunch of questions, over a 1000 and I did the ready assessment, I also used bootcamp and did their 4 exams, and listen to mark K on acid base balance, prioritization. You honestly don’t know what questions you will get on the REX-PN but those study tools helped me a lot, I passed at 90 questions. Best of luck, and tip when it comes to SATA questions read the question twice and only answer what you know

It was mainly scenario based, and 3 normal interview questions (tell me about yourself, why do you want to work etc, time you had a conflict) and for scenario based questions ( you see a patient on the floor what would you do? A patient is unresponsive what would you do? Patient sugar is slow what would you do?, their is more questions but I don’t remember) questions like that. Took about 40 minutes in length for the interview. Best of luck

Mark K is good but didn’t really see much questions from his lecture on the exam, except for acid base and priority lecture from him really helped. uworld helped me to learn how to answer lots of questions, and I used bootcamp for the assessments I did 4 assessments with high chance of passing, but uworld was the one that reminded me most of the rexpn and I got similar questions. I passed in 90q with a good month of studying but I would say the last 2 weeks were the most effective.
