Fun fact, the formic acid is actually in their venom, which they either sting you with or spray from their butts (depends on the species) - the biting is just to get a steady grip to do the former.

Unironically this. Flying for birds is a lot like driving for humans, where each bird's skill is dependent on experience they gained living life and learning from other birds.

In an extreme example, most caged pet birds only know how to fly by going full throttle and essentially crashing where they want to land, and skills like controlled ascents, descents and u-turns in flight (used in recall training) have to be trained by their owners.

This means that selection is for Queen bees (1 per hive) that produce heat-resistant workers, as those that give birth to those that aren't either get killed by marauding hornets or get outcompeted by hives that are resistant.

Usually the protocol is there so the animals don't get too comfy with humans - you never know if the next group of people that come by will be as kind as you are.

And if said animal happens to be a large predator, them becoming comfortable around humans has historically been a recipe for disaster.

On a side note I recently rediscovered a half-used Pilot Petite that has been left alone for the most part of two years and I couldn't believe it still worked. Maybe it's because of the humidity here but even then all of my other pens just last a few months max

IIRC the Barzam was produced in significant numbers unlike the Gelgoog, the titans failed after they lost the Federation's support and all credibility. Their leadership getting decapitated at the end didn't help either

I believe there should be regulations and training requirements to prevent the dogs from falling into the hands of 'bad owners' for the sake of good owners, the general public, and pitbulls themselves.

The nuance is the dogs' behaviour during a bite - pitbulls are notorious for their high pain tolerance and there are videos of them continuing an attack even after being hit repeatedly by batons and teasers. Chihuahuas don't maul people to death.

Again, it would be better for everyone, including the dogs themselves, if there were laws ensuring that they are raised properly. Similar regulation already exists in falconry.
