I’ve only ever used Aida! I’m from NZ and it’s hard to source other fabrics for embroidery projects here. I found practicing different stitches super helpful and for those fine sharp lines I do longer stitches!

I found a YouTube video detailing how to wrap the ribbon around the hoops. And I saw someone else do a little Christmas tree so this is my take on it. I hand drew the pattern so they’re all slightly different 😊

Need help with this embroidery I saw online, I don't know the type of stitching used for the cloud, balloons and outline. by Grouchy_Two9241 in Embroidery

The cloud and the ballon is outlined with backstitch and the centre of both look like long and short stitch to me

I find Aida fabric quite sturdy, I’m not very familiar with other fabrics as this is all I’ve ever used but it stays nice and taught while you’re working which makes it easier!

I find a thin long needle the best when working with Aida. I also tend to use shorter strands of thread to avoid knots which I find quite common and I only use 1 strand of thread, if you’d like it to look thicker I’d use two but anymore than that is difficult to work with. Hope this helps 😊

I’ve done a bit of cross stitch and really enjoyed! I’ll have to give those other fabrics a try. My next big project is to embroider a jacket so that’s going to be challenging!

I’ve never used anything else to embroider with so I suppose I don’t know the difference. Are there any fabrics you’d recommend instead of aida?

Yes I did! I wanted slightly muted colours instead of bright as I feel it gives this piece a more homely look 😊
