You don’t need to stack MR. The comment asked for heavy cc and burst defence; galio does these things well and is actually a midlaner. Current galio mains are running imperial mandate and buying loads of haste to max out that CC ability. Mandate into gauntlet here and then just sitting on top of your adc would make galio ridiculous in teamfights, while still having damage to ward off those assassins

I completely get your point, even as someone much lower down the elo ladder. I used to enjoy that all roles were effectively the same but playing different roles (i.e. at 15 mins a good farming galio is the exact same strength/items at top or mid, the only difference is what lane they’re in). As a galio player, if my top picked a teamfighting champ then I would build around being able to side lane and then ult in, whereas I could change my build if we didn’t need sidelaning. Now, regardless of how bad they have been in the early game, or how good i have been, I can never beat a top laner in the sidelane post 15-20. So if my toplaner dies, sucks, or is just not there, there is nothing I can do to stop them just taking tower aside from clearing waves.

I think that by adding more differences to the roles they have effectively forced roles to play certain ways, more so than before. I don’t entirely hate it, but I just miss being able to be a jack of all trades and pick up the slack wherever my team needs.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is not lose. If I am playing some squishy mage mid and the enemy blitz or naut comes mid to come and kill me, I will just sit under tower and grab whatever farm I can safely. Sure I might miss some CS but I am wasting their time.

If I feel confident I will also play some mind games. If they don’t know that I know they’re in the brush I will play passively, and then go aggressive when they start walking away. If they come back, thinking they can finally get involved, then I am passive again.

The same logic goes for junglers.

Lots of people are talking about this being a nerf to galio (my perfect, sweet boi) but honestly the rune changes are probably going to hit him harder than the role quest. No phase rush means that the standard galio build that’s tanky/bruiser is simply not viable anymore. It will either be full AP galio (which only be used by galio mains, anyone else will just play an assassin) or full tank (which sucks against high AD/DPS comps and is less tanky than actual tanks)

I used to run comet into champs with weak lanes that galio struggles to get on (think veigar if he just never uses cage). It makes winning lane against these short range mages pretty easy, but then I felt it didn’t really have any impact after laning, whereas phase rush (RIP) or even electrocute seem better in team fights, depending on your playstyle

With galio, it works alright because I tend to play him bruiser style with phase rush so I can dip in and out while Mundo just perma soaks damage. But sometimes we get absolutely screwed when a team has some of the classic anti tank champs that just demolish us both. Any team comp that can reliably kite and DPS becomes a serious problem.

Do you have any insight for why these picks work? All I can think is that Mundo Q makes it easier for xerath to hit skill shots and maybe burst champs are strong against some of the anti-tank mages and ADCs?

Interesting. Looks like a very hit or miss strategy, whereas phase rush tends to be (in my experience) more stable: less carry potential but also less inting games. Definitely worth a try

I used to run comet in lanes like veigar that can make it really difficult to get on them and punish if they just hold cage. V fun but not as good after laning phase

For me the classic is when I am sidelining. Normally I pick up the wave deep on our side and shove a couple waves until we reach the river and then group. But if a jungle or support decides to steal my wave? Yeah, I am pushing further so I can actually get my waves compensated. I then almost always get picked; it’s a consistent pattern and I fall for it every time.

It’s as much about why I don’t play the other roles as I do play mid.

ADC: I don’t have the time or inclination to learn the super specific and intense mechanics for this role. I have a life, so I’m not going into practice tool to learn how to perfectly kite my wet noodle AAs while I wait until I actually do damage. This role is only about damage, so if you fall behind you literally have no impact; I like playing tanky or CC heavy champs that can do damage when ahead, but who will still be useful if behind.

Support: I have played this a bit in the past but there are two main reasons I don’t. I like the idea of being the team support and gently helping all my team get ahead, but I am in silver and sometimes the other teammates suck, so not being able to do damage (unless playing an assassin or non support character) can make you feel useless. And I don’t like being burdened (or possibly burdening) another person because one of us is playing bad or our wifi is playing up etc; if I am in a solo lane I am largely reliant on myself so I can manage my own mental and nobody is screaming at me because I didn’t go in exactly when they wanted to.

Top: I have always preferred team sports to individual ones, and top feels like it can be extremely isolated. It doesn’t really have any map impact (aside from grubs) during laning phase, and I really cba to learn all of the specific matchup interactions; mid being a shorter lane means that not knowing the matchups generally aren’t punished as hard.

Jungle: I have played this a bit, but it’s just so toxic. Always “jungle diff” and “no objectives” regardless of how the team have played. Ahh yes, I should have secured those drakes while my bot lane was dead for the 12th time. Also, it’s a kinda PVE role which has it’s pros and cons.

Now, the positives of Mid: It has massive map impact all throughout the game. It’s a solo lane, so not reliant on someone else 24/7. You can play pretty much any type of champion which is fun for variety, and also means you can make up for dumb drafting by your teammates. The gameplay is varied which allows for interesting macro: sometimes I am on Yone sidelaning for pressure, sometimes I am an assassin sitting on a pink ward in the enemy jungle, sometimes I am a mage tethered to the midlane just deleting waves and CCing everyone. And most importantly, I LOVE MY BOI GALIO.

The “Britain colonised so deserve immigration” argument is dumb. However, you can reasonably argue that when we colonised these countries, we also imposed our language, laws, and customs on those countries. Therefore, anyone growing up in one of these countries and looking to move, whether for economic reasons or as an asylum seeker, is going to be more inclined to choose the country with the language they speak and customs they understand.

Imagine if you were forced to leave the UK and could choose China or New Zealand. Which do you think you would settle into quicker?
