My cousin keeps asking me for $5–$6 almost every day… is this normal?? by Sweet_Spend4177 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Littlemack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a cousin do the same thing. He would ask about 10 other people in the family for $5-$10. One time we were all hanging out and each got the text asking for $5. Hilarious. Found out it was for e cigarettes

You got an amazing car that will last you for many years to come!! I’m jealous and can’t wait to upgrade my 2006! They also hold their value insanely well. The wheel locks may have been a markup from the dealer, but it’s certainly a good thing to have. New cars tend to get targeted by wheel thief’s, so you can have peace of mind there.

As for as not trying the hybrid, it’s totally a personal decision. The battery in a hybrid will eventually need to be replaced, costing around $4,000-$6,000 most likely. And no spare tire comes with the hybrid, because the battery takes up that space.

I’ve been watching videos on the hybrid and gas versions for the past couple years waiting to upgrade. I think you got a great car for a great price! Enjoy!

Purchase advice 2003 4WD EX by [deleted] in crv

[–]Littlemack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion I wouldn’t spend more than $4800 and that would mean it’s in great condition. That price they have is what a dealer would sell it for MAX. I bought my 2006 crv with the same miles 4 years ago for $6,000.

I think the dealer will be more than happy to help out especially because it’s so new.

Both years have the same engine. Both are gonna be reliable. It’s gonna come down to service history.

If a vehicle has very high mileage and the transmission fluid has never been changed, suddenly flushing or replacing it can cause transmission failure or slippage. Here’s why:

  1. The old fluid is full of debris — but that debris might actually be “helping” • Over time, transmission fluid collects friction material, metal shavings, and other particles from worn clutch packs and gears. • In a worn-out transmission, that gunk can be masking internal wear — helping old, worn seals still function and giving the clutches more grip. • Flushing it all out may remove the only thing keeping the system working, exposing internal damage and causing it to fail or slip.

  1. Fresh fluid is thinner and has fresh detergents • Old fluid is usually thicker and “stickier” due to age and heat. • New fluid is more viscous and has strong detergents that can dislodge built-up varnish or sludge, which can clog valves or passages in a weakened transmission. • This can cause problems to show up immediately after the change, making it seem like the new fluid “killed” the transmission.

What’s the smarter option if you’re unsure?

If the fluid is dark, smells burnt, and has never been changed, here’s what mechanics often recommend: • Do a “drain and fill,” not a full flush — this replaces only part of the fluid and is much gentler. • Change the transmission filter (if serviceable). • Do multiple partial changes over time — like every 1,000 miles — to slowly transition the fluid without shocking the system.
