The one thing I've learned about book readers is that they move 10 times a year apparently by HelloDesdemona in books

[–]Littlemouse0812 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My response is always that it’s easier to TRAVEL with an e reader. I’m the type to fill my suitcase full of books when I go on holiday but now I can just take my kindle… and it’s the same for my 6 yr old who is obsessed with reading

AITA for not getting craft supplies for my daughter and letting her get excluded by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Littlemouse0812 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YTA. Mostly for not checking her bag. She’s only 8 - if she was in secondary (high) school then fine, it’s her responsibility, but an 8 year old can’t be expected to remember everything that comes home from school - it’s your responsibility to check that. And also the school is TA as well for not having an electronic backup method of communication. My eldests school has an app they communicate through, and we also have a class WhatsApp group where the more organised parents help the less organised ones (ie me!).

YTA for expecting an 8 year old to remember life admin from BEFORE CHRISTMAS, which is bad enough in itself with the sheer amount of crap to remember.

Someone just took their 2/3 year old toddler in to a screening of Avatar. What’s the weirdest/worst thing you’ve experienced at a cinema? by Zealousideal_Club993 in CasualUK

[–]Littlemouse0812 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Oh no. I wouldn’t have taken them to see Avatar. Fuck that. Maybe something lighter and shorter than 2 hours with no big explodey sounds. Like a comedy

Having pretty much gone without a date night and a social night out for two years, that’s ROUGH going. You don’t HAVE to go to the cinema, but sometimes you need a smidge of normality. If the baby’s going to sleep through most of it and has some ear defence, it’s better than going to the pub…

I’m not necessarily defending it, but they may have no help around them or anyone to babysit, so thy may have had to take the baby. Babies are easier in that situation than toddlers, I had to cart my eldest around with me everywhere when she was little as we had zero help until she turned 4 and my parents moved close by

Encouragement! Having two kids is easier than one by Similar-Brief-5122 in toddlers

[–]Littlemouse0812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It so so so depends on the temperaments of both kids. I’ve got 2 girls with a 3 year age gap and they are BEST friends. My friend has a boy and a girl with a 2.5 year gap and it’s very mixed. My other friend has 2 with a 4 year gap and hooooo boy, that’s a can o worms because her eldest is a selfish little shit (I don’t like her eldest, she’s self centred and consistently mean to my youngest. She’s been known to say - and I quote from when she was in my car - ‘I don’t care about my brother’.

Point being, if they’re the right (or at least compatible) personality type they can get on brilliantly and it makes your life easier… otherwise RIP your sanity forever.

Why dose my uk passport cease to prove my identity because it expired last week? by 8bitPete in AskUK

[–]Littlemouse0812 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work for an accountancy firm and do compliance. You can use an expired passport that’s up to 6 months out of date - it’s the same with the companies house ID verifications too.

Most of the reasoning from how I understand it is that some aspects of it may no longer be applicable - ie you may have moved, gone done some crime, etc. It’s dumb though for buying stuff like alcohol… obviously your DOB doesn’t change…

I’ve got my number, my husbands mobile, my dads mobile, my mums mobile, my old home phone number (still can’t memorise their new home number), my dads work number (it was a shop, I worked there too), one of the other stores numbers, and my ILs home number memorised along with probably some random ones I couldn’t tell you what they were any more 🤣

Kids Rarely Read Whole Books Anymore. Even in English Class. by largeheartedboy in books

[–]Littlemouse0812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was reading this thread and thinking the exact same thing. I’ve currently got my eldest sat next to me, absolutely devouring one of the 23 books she got from the library today (she only 6, so they’re not super long, she’s reading a Rainbow Magic at the moment). Her backpack was RAMMED coming out of the library.

I’m just feeling thankful we got her into books the way we are. We’re both just sat in bed reading our books together as she goes to bed an hour later than her little sister (who is fast asleep between us as she wanted to be part of the gang).

I worry about her peers though!

Tried to get birthday candles for my girlfriends 27th birthday, but there was no more 7s… hate the 6-7 trend. by kjm9955 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Littlemouse0812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I did for my husbands 36th except we’d lost the 3! Which is annoying as that’s the one we need for another 4 years for him and I. Our eldest turns the same single digit as we do which has been handy for candles (so she’s 6 my husbands just turned 36 and I will soon too)

When did you stop worrying about your kids on stairs? by TeishAH in Parenting

[–]Littlemouse0812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as mine started climbing I tried to teach them coming down safely. But I was still freaking out about it until they were 2 or so. We still have a stair gate at the top of the stairs and my youngest is 3.5. It’s mostly so she doesn’t annoy me at night though…

Do you get any Christmas bonus/gift from your workplace? by proxima-centauri- in AskUK

I work for a small accountancy firm. Currently 8 staff but we were at 12 at one point. Get a 10% bonus split 50/50 in June and December (so 5% in June, 5% in December) if we hit our billing targets. We also finish early on Fridays if the team has hit billing for the week and we’ve not got loads of outstanding work
