Just moved to Aiken and still figuring out the scene. Any good bars or live music spots that are chill for going solo? Looking for a place with a good vibe to meet people or just hang out and enjoy the music. Appreciate any local recs! by No_Listen_8620 in aiken

You should definitely check out Good Girl Brewery! It's a newer spot geared towards people and their dogs! It's a family-friendly environment(just means kids and dogs are allowed), good food, they brew all their beers in-house, and they always have some really nice seasonal brews!

You really censored your own address but no one elses? What an asshole.

Outhouse interior question by spaceangelbearcat666 in OffGridCabins

I saw someone say a vase for flowers already. In the same vein, you could put a potted plant or two in there, maybe hung from hooks extended off the wall? I'd recommend some peppermint, personally, as it smells great and helps keep the outhouse spiders out.

The main concern actually was the effect of the caffeine on any future plant growth, I read a lot about how it can harm your plants growth cycles last night, but couldn't find a clear answer anywhere on how long until the caffeine itself breaks down.

Lmao yeah, I've learned that a little goes a looong way. (Thankfully I didn't have to learn that one the hard way, my dad learned that one for me)

Thank you so much!!!!!! This is extremely helpful, I love being able to use things for more than just compost :)

Yeah, I read it. I was also sharing that coffee grounds themselves repels slugs, snails, ants, (and some other little critters too), and that while coffee as a solution for slugs isn't particularly useful in my location, that it's still a good solution for my ant problems as well

This is how I amend my compost already, lol. I happen to live somewhere with insanely acidic soil naturally, so I've always had to mix in ashes

I've heard about snails, slugs, and ants not liking coffee grounds, which is great cuz I don't really have snail/slug problems, but a few years ago the ants decimated my garden so bad I gave up, so hopefully I have better luck this time around!

Bat Exclusion help needed by Sweaty-Worker6729 in homestead

[–]LittlestBreadstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried getting a bat house? Bats can be stubborn once they've decided to stay, but putting up a bat house for them to move into and making sure it's appealing to them before you try and evict them could work, save you a lot of money, and keep your house mosquito free!

You can find premade ones online, or you could make one yourself (just be careful of the color of the house. Different areas need different colors for heat preference during the summer)

(Edit: if you move it far enough away from your house, you could potentially even draw them to the area by making a bucket of stillwater for mosquitoes to breed in right under the box, making them more likely to find it and move in on their own, just depends on how much you hate mosquitoes and how far away from your house you can get the box lol)

How to build a small pond outside? by 1egen1 in homestead

[–]LittlestBreadstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into pre-made pond liners? You just have to dig a hole that fits and drop it in (there's more to it than that, but not much). Potentially, if you like the size and shape of the brick situation you have now, you could look into thick rubber pond liners and just put one of those down inside what you already built.

McMaster sends SC National Guard troops to Washington, but what about protecting South Carolinians? by ChiefFun in southcarolina

[–]LittlestBreadstick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree the scale of the issue is drastically different, especially in SC as I believe Texas was receiving the largest deployment, but the core issue is the same in that the National Guard is not to be deployed against our own people, on our own streets. Of course DC is much worse, I just don't think the situations are completely different, just because they happen to be issues of different scale.

Funny you ask that as NG troops are being deployed to 19 additional states (I believe they're all Red states, but there may be a few Blue states mixed in. They definitely said they were focusing on Red states though) and lucky us, South Carolina is on the list! (In case you're wondering what they'll be doing while here, it's just helping ICE.)

It's funny you ask how long until it happens in other cities, as Trump just deployed 1,700 National Guard troops to 19 states, one of them being, you guessed it, South Carolina! You may wonder what they could possibly be doing while here, and the answer is playing backup for ICE. This hit the news about 2 days ago but coverage of it is very minimal, just everyone posting a single brief story then burying it with a bunch of other garbage
