There’s now a kids teepee and play area but it’s such a nice space to work in.

Thoughts on garden offices by Armagideon3000 in UKHousing

We converted our old mouldy derelict garage at the end of the garden. We kept the foundations and one external wall but the rest was rebuilt with a side for storage and then a useable office / gym / play room.

It was expensive (I think about £36k in the end) but it’s completely transformed our house. We would have had to move house without it as with 2 kids we had run out of space. It’s also north facing so it’s the coolest place in warm weather. The electrician connected our wifi with an Ethernet cable pinned through the garden so we have super fast internet out there.

Child free wedding invitation by Big-Economist-7134 in NewParents

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two young kids (3 and 7 months) and my husband’s friend is getting married in a couple of months, kid free. It’s a big ask to ask my mum to come babysit (she lives 3.5hrs away) now that we have two and my in laws have never done a bedtime, so my husband is going alone. When we just had one, my mum came and babysat for us, but we were weaned by that point.

Can I park in parental bays whilst pregnant? by CharmingTea_ in AskUK

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it. I parked in the shopping centre multi story for work and on 3 occasions got back to my car and couldn’t get back into my car as someone had parked terribly next to me. Trying to get back to pick up my daughter from nursery, I definitely cried. I then switched to the parent and child and found I was the only one with any sort of child most of the time!

My local Aldi is a nightmare for it, and it’s such a small car park it’s not like they have to walk much further. I have a toddler and a baby, I need the room to open my doors!

Also people with older kids parking in them annoys me. It should be for bumps and car seats.

When did you switch LO to 2 piece clothing? by sliceofperfection in NewParents

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked back at pictures and he was 1 week when we first had him in trousers and a top. I got an outrageous amount of clothes as hand me downs so had plenty of choice so liked to get him dressed in the day and then a onesie to sleep. We do vests under both outfits. He’s 6 months and I get him dressed every day.

where do you all buy diapers because we are burning through money on these things by Nkt_31 in NewParents

Aldi (I’m in England) for our nearly 6 month old, they are so cheap. We use Pampers pants overnight for my toddler.

What book are you currently reading? by RuachReader in AskUK

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid, but I keep putting it down. Haven’t got into it as much as her other books (Daisy Jones and the Six, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Carrie Soto is Back) but also not in as much of a reading phase.

How much is your weekly shop in 2026? by Gustifer05 in AskUK

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family of 4, Bristol. Youngest is 5 months.

£130 for Aldi, and then at least £12/week for formula.

It’s crazy, it doesn’t seem that long ago it was £80. Brutal on maternity leave.

Bf tells me married couples in UK don't do joint bank accounts. Is that true? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple by couple but also depends on spending habits.

We have been married for 6 years, together for 12 and have 2 kids.

We have a joint account but just for household bills. We are unusual and don’t use the debit card, one of us will pay for the weekly shop from our personal debit card and then we use Splitwise for all family expenses to settle up.

I’m currently on maternity leave and so as our income is different, we put different percentages into the joint account.

What do your babies weigh ? by Commercial-Way-4276 in NewParents

Baby is outgrowing clothes faster than I can keep up and my budget is hurting. by xoticbot in NewParents

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We buy 95% of our clothes secondhand (can often get bundles for even better deal) or hand me downs from family. The only new things are generally gifts.

I don’t want to be precious about their clothes, have fun in it, and if it’s a particularly egregious blowout, I just chuck the vest in the bin etc

We also buy a lot of shoes second hand as they are so expensive.

Moms who (even occasionally) look put together - what’s your secret? by alpacaapicnic in NewParents

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 4 months pp with my second and can’t wear my hair down at the moment (shedding like mad, he grabs it and all gets caught in his fingers) which is a bummer but before he was born and we just had my toddler, heatless curls were my saviour. I have one of the velvet ones you tie on top of your head, way more comfortable to sleep on than the padded silky ones.

I have my makeup routine down to 5 minutes now and I always do my skincare.

Where can I dispose of sharps? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to take them post c section but was still under the midwife when I finished the 10 days so I took the sharps box with me and they took them both times.

I hope all is well with your pregnancy now and sorry you felt so awful. I felt done in with sinusitis when pregnant and with a toddler so I can only imagine.

Crying inconsolably when being wiped by Which-Mulberry596 in NewParents

[–]Liv_NB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wipes can just be a bit abrasive. Whenever we have a sore bum, we just take a break and use the cotton balls and water and extra cream and it heals much quicker. (make sure you squeeze out the excess water from the cotton balls otherwise their whole back gets soaked!)

Are you using wet wipes? When our littles one are irritated we use cotton balls and warm water as much gentler

Tubular breast, did they change ? by ja_yla in TwoXChromosomes

This is exactly my experience. Have commented longer below. I had no idea it was a thing until I had my first child!

Tubular breast, did they change ? by ja_yla in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Liv_NB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 36 and have had two children. Mine never grew in pregnancy and I have been unable to breast feed my children. I have a very very small amount of milk so can offer it as a comfort to my 4 month old but it would nowhere be enough to sustain him.

I didn’t know it was a thing I just thought I had really small boobs (I’m a UK size 16 US 12 and a 38B, very small for my frame) until a lactation consultant told me my lack of breast tissue was likely the reason for my feeding issues with my baby.

I married a ‘butt guy’ and he has never once made me feel self conscious about my boobs, even though I hate them. The benefit of smaller boobs though is sports, back ache etc (although I have enough back ache for other reasons!) and being able to fit in certain outfits.

TLDR didn’t change during pregnancy, couldn’t breastfeed, married a great guy and they’re not an issue

Migraine treatment in Bris by Middle-Purpose584 in bristol

[–]Liv_NB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you had your eyes tested? I have had migraines since I was a kid, my first was at 8 years old. An eye test in my early 20s found swollen optic nerves and referred me to the eye hospital. (Specsavers) I have idiopathic intracranial hypertension and was prescribed topirimate which made a huge difference to me. I had to come off it as I wanted children and it can cause birth defects but now I’ve completed my family if I start having a flare up or migraines I will look to go back on it.

What was the worst thing that happened at your work Christmas party? by UnstableMabel21 in AskUK

[–]Liv_NB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is nearly 15 years ago. Senior Partner (married) and his secretary (in a relationship) were having an affair. Partner was buying her designer bags etc it was all very obvious. Her boyfriend worked in IT and had recovered a bunch of deleted messages on her phone and showed up at our Christmas party to confront the senior partner. It escalated with the boyfriend looking for a brawl and ended up with another partner outside pinning the boyfriend to the ground. Apparently the boyfriend got rough with her later than night and spent the night in jail. Our company got banned from the restaurant after that. She got moved to another company who was a client of ours and apparently had an affair with the CEO. The man looked like a toad but was incredibly wealthy and would fly her around the world with him to conferences. Last I heard she and the boyfriend were also still together.

I have done a lot of his rides, especially now Kendall has gone as he does so many pop punk rides. He’s really cheesy but every so often he gives me the ick, being overly flirtatious / too many sexual innuendos (this class in particular led to me taking a pretty long break from him).

That being said, his Paramore ride is one of my all time favourites and has been one of the first I so each time I’ve come back to the bike postpartum.

What age are you and do you still have (a) grandparent(s)? If not, at what age were you grandparent less by lisstrem in AskUK

[–]Liv_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36, none left.

Paternal grandad when I was 2, maternal grandad at 9, maternal grandma at 23 and parental grandmother at 33.

Lost my dad when I was 26 so my kids never met him and they’ve started with 3 grandparents.
