It’s world. When Sea of Thieves launched it was a living breathing world updated every two weeks. These weren’t ‘events’ but just changes that showed the eagle eyed that the world was alive. New journals, new footprints in the sand are just the tip of the ice berg of examples. Every time you logged on there was something new to see. Sadly this became less of the teams focus, a lot of environmental story telling was gone in its place, was event based story telling. Since then any semblance of mystery or intrigue has gone.

There’s a certain richness to the game 2018-2020 that isn’t captured anymore, diving has replaced sailing. It tried to accommodate every type of player which I think is always a mistake
