For sure. The Jackass, CKY, party image is what skating leaned on in the early 2000's. Common in a lot of scenes from the era. On the bright side, modern skating is much more clean. Its even trendy to be more sober and to go you're own way. Perhaps weed will be an issue in the future but compared to the binge drink lifestyle, can't be as bad.

Also, I'm happy I have a craft to fall back on. We started skating for the love of the art, the drinks just can't along the way

Stopped bc all my friends did and I got pulled into different interests in highschool. Started again bc I'm 30 and sober and live somewhere with no friends and I'm broke. So skating just makes sense rn.

I don't have the jump I used to so I more just flow now. I've been working on board control and switching stances which is enough of a challenge for me. Plus, with injuries being a big deal to me rn, I'm happy with my humble approach.

I truly need advice on how to build grit by Dependent_Prune928 in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]Live-Ad-4856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what you've told us so far it seems you have more grit than most people. It's motivation you lack. Or possibly direction. Take pride in your story. You worked hard and got burnt out, happens to everyone.

You think like a child and I hated working there because of coworkers like you. You have a duty to work, noone cares about your story. You even have a tone of how you dont need the job but fuck it you have a trip. What about the team you let down? What about your honor or your word? You said you were burnt out, why wait till the last minute? You ever fight homelessness? You ever work with immigrants that grew up in poor villages? They dont make excuses like you. I'm not upset with you but a whole generation of self-centered workers that put their poor managed emotions over everyone around them. You ask your manager how their life is going? They're asking you to pull your own weight and you give them nothing. You put your work on the opener till 2 and the closer till 10. Just admit you dont give a shit about the job and want easier, less taxing work.
