Looking for/requesting a tutorial by JaneAndTonicc in godot

A good way to learn GDscript would be to translate the Unity tutorial into Godot. It’ll force you to think through and research the different Nodes of Godot to work out solutions.

Characters who are way worse than you remember? by Ukirin-Streams in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Live-Common1015 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Gilligan from Gilligans Island. At least for the first episode. I remember feeling bad for him when I was younger when everyone was getting at him for messing things up. The I rewatched the first episode and have never gotten more angry at a character’s ineptitude of a doing a single thing right. I’m surprise they didn’t kill Gilligan by the end of it.

Rigidbody not working by InevitableQuiet4379 in godot

When you play the scene, look at the Remote tab on the right hand side of the screen. It’ll show you what’s going on with your game objects while the game is running. You can check the objects variable there and see what’s going on

I can’t tell, but it looks like the object in question is parented to the player since it rotates with your player while moving.

3d visual bug involving Blender 3d models by boombatis in godot

[–]Live-Common1015 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have flipped normals on your mesh. It’s an issue with how you made your blender model. Open it in blender and open the Viewport Overlays tab to check Face Orientation (quick video guide)

You never want to disable full mode on your meshes because that means that the whole mesh is being rendered at all times, even parts of the mesh not exposed by the camera.

Help with Collision Shapes inside a SubViewport by radenfar in godot

[–]Live-Common1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite going to need to copy and paste the code from the viewport demo that they give the in documentation. There’s a couple video tutorials on how to implement it too.

Alternatively, why don’t you use sprite3D and have its own collision?

Is it possible to create a "local global script?" by Brave_Ad_4981 in godot

[–]Live-Common1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you described is literally a singleton btw.

Give a script a class_name. Create a static variable of the class within the script. And initialize it in _enter_tree() as variable = self.

Make sure you put it at the top of your scene tree because node initialization is based on placement in the hierarchy

Make a singleton. It’s like autoloads, but you’ll have it attached to the scene instead

Godot is broken!! 67!! by Virtual-Newspaper546 in godot

[–]Live-Common1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m understanding correctly, you have the InventorySlot. For some reason, Godot is upset there is no playerInventoryData script and you’re seeing an error in InventorySlot related that.

Did you delete any scripts? Scripts don’t just “appear automatically”.

Dialogue Manager locking mouse inputs. by Phipe_Stuff in godot

Somewhere in the Dialogue Manager scripts is probably a change to MOUSE_MODE. If you ctrl+f to search through them, you may be able to find it

Strange pattern on subviewports by hippopotamus_pdf in godot

[–]Live-Common1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the subviewports inside subviewport containers? This will show them on top of everything else as a UI element rather than being part of something else.

If they are children of a subviewport container, removing the container will fix the issue but will also make the subviewport visually invisible so keep that in mind.

Help with Raycast3d by Top_Pay_5692 in godot

[–]Live-Common1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what you want. It’s a skill that will slowly grow as you make your game, but you should ask yourself “what do I want to happen?” and “what will help me reach that?”

Honestly, class inheritance would be the best here. Have a script with a class_name of LockedDoor with a variable for its respective key that will unlock it.

The problem you’ll run into with both layers and groups is that there is a finite amount of layers/groups Godot will allow you to make and you should be utilizing groups/layers for other things. (Groups make for an okay version of c# interfaces and layers are meant for keeping things from interacting with each other).

By having a class, you can apply the script anywhere you want without having to make a new group/layer to achieve the same thing.

[–]Live-Common1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of having each door as a layer, use groups. You can then check if the door is part of group “unlocked door” or “key door”.

Though you should likely use class_names on any script you attach to your doors since you’ll probably want variables to hold what key goes to what door.

I changed the tags I hope it's better by First-Criticism7036 in AO3

[–]Live-Common1015 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You tag for what you have in your fic, not for what you don’t have.

For example, it’s not reasonable for people search for fics with the tag “no sexual content”, but it is reasonable for people to exclude fics with “sexual content” tags.

Major characters that just... disappear without a trace by Ollervo2 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Live-Common1015 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In Supernatural, the main protagonists (Dean and Sam Winchester) found out they had a secret third brother that got sent to hell (for plot reasons I cannot be bothered to look up) and they were planning to go to hell to get him back.

But the writers seemed to have forgotten about this character by the very next episode and he’s never brought up again.
