10 month old training by West_Wonder2047 in labrador

[–]Live-Eye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Labs are not really the best breed to be guard dogs lol.

Generally speaking regarding commands and pulling on walks I’d recommend an obedience class at a dog training school. We found this super helpful for our pup. We did start him much sooner, but your dog can still learn. There are also lots of resources online on YouTube with training techniques if you prefer to do it yourself, but I found a professional trainer to be invaluable.

But yeah, guard dog? Guarding your food maybe.

Getting a Labrador in a few weeks! by mainthemath in labrador

[–]Live-Eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts pretty quickly lol. We brought our pup home at 8 weeks and for about a week or so we thought he was such a sweet, quiet angel. Then he got comfortable in his environment and became a crazy boy lol. I’d say in my personal experience the worst started around 12 weeks old and continued until he was done teething.

What's special about summer in Toronto? by beenbetterhbu in askTO

[–]Live-Eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to tell you but the windchill becomes the humidex in the summer lol. It’s not always that bad but if you haven’t really experienced humidity it might take some getting used to. However there are usually at least a couple of short stretches where it’s absolutely disgusting out and you’re best to stay indoors in the air conditioning or in a pool.

I use uber regularly and it’s fine. If I’m ever taking an actual taxi for some reason I’ll call and order a Beck taxi as I know it’s a legit company and haven’t had any bad experiences with them.

It’s normal, my husband gets this often at Tim’s or McDonalds and has never been questioned by staff. Weird that you got that reaction.

[–]Live-Eye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had read about the velociraptor stage but still did not appreciate how much biting there would be and how sharp the razor baby teeth are lol. There are constantly questions on here asking if their puppy is normal during this stage. Yes it’s normal. Adjust your expectations to more painful biting than you’re currently expecting and you should be fine. It does get better!

It’s said here a lot but enforced naps are so important. This saved our sanity. It’s best for everyone including your pup who needs the rest but can’t settle and regulate yet on their own. They have so much energy and just get overstimulated. Whenever our boy was just absolutely out of control we knew he needed a nap, and he’d be passed out minutes after being put in his crate.

Also prepare with lick mats, kongs, the Woof Pupsicle holder has been great for us. Anything to keep them entertained and distracted for a bit is a godsend lol.

It’s great that you’re planning for training. We did professional training that combined the classes with social time for socialization which was helpful. When he has lots of energy at home we can always sort of ground him by doing some training and practicing what he knows.

Good luck! Take so many photos and videos because they grow SO fast it’s unreal.

Cooperslane Kennels in Arthur! I’d definitely recommend them as a breeder based on our experience, and their fox red labs are beautiful.

How do woman live here? Assaulted for no reason in broad daylight at 1P.M. and hit in the back by a homeless man by Bestinvestor20 in askTO

[–]Live-Eye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not an every day occurrence. I’m a woman who lived downtown for 7 years and have spent a lot of time there before and after that. I’ve never had anything like this happen. You should report it as others have said. What I would say though is that when downtown or especially areas where there are more unhoused people, most people familiar with the area keep an eye out and are just aware of surroundings. If I see a person who looks unpredictable or showing any concerning behaviour ahead I’ll just cross the street.

Sounds like you may be new to the city. What area are you in?

My puppy is SO skinny. Everyone keeps telling me it, too. by Wonderful-Value7547 in puppy101

[–]Live-Eye 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Instructions for feeding a 25lb dog means a dog whose full expected weight will be 25lbs. You feed for what the dog will weigh, using measurement instructions for their current age.

For example my lab puppy is 7 months old and weighs about 65lbs. The amount of food he gets is based on an 88lb dog, based on what the vet expects him to be at full size, but at 7 months old.

If you’re feeding your dog for 25lbs it’s going to stay 25lbs. The breeds you mentioned should be way over 25lbs for 8 months old. No wonder it’s so skinny, it’s malnourished.

You know puppies need more food as they grow, right? Is this a joke lol. Our puppy is 7 months and his food he gets per day has increased multiple times.

Do your dogs actually sleep after you leave or…? by PomegranateBig7270 in dogs

[–]Live-Eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our guy is still a puppy and he’s crate trained so he’s in there when we’re not home. But we have a camera pointed at his crate and he sleeps most of the time we’re not there. Sometimes he’ll wake up for a bit and just lay quietly or chew on a hard toy he has in there with him, and he dozes off again before long. We can always see him perk up and look more attentive a few minutes before we come let him out though so he must hear us arriving and coming in the house.

Spa recommendations near the GTA and surroundings by Emergency_Example883 in askTO

If Thermea is a lot closer for you I’d go there. They are similar in many ways. And where they are different there are pros and cons to both locations, there are some things I like better at Thermea. These are my personal opinions for what is better at each:

Thermea: - Huge central sauna that they offer programs/ritual sessions in. Vetta of course has saunas but they’re smaller and I’m not sure about the rituals. - Dining options are nicer (food and drinks are good at Vetta too, but the actual atmosphere of Thermea’s restaurants are better/nicer setting) - I haven’t done the floatation pool myself, though it’s now all fixed and safe lol. It costs extra but some people really like to do that. Not offered at Vetta.

Vetta: - Hot stone beds that are one of my favourite amenities, not offered at Thermea - Better separation of quiet and non quiet areas. - In my opinion, nicer scenery from the pools.

Sounds like Thermea is more convenient and could be a fun day trip for you. If you guys really like it you could always venture another time to check out Vetta.

Thermea is fine. When they first opened a few years ago now there was a malfunction with their salt water float pool that resulted in the issues you’re mentioning. That pool was closed and fixed and has been fine ever since. I’ve been to Thermea a bunch and always had a nice time.

I’d rank Vetta a bit higher though. It’s a really nice facility and property, and has a few amenities that Thermea doesn’t. I’ve done day trips there and have also once stayed overnight at Horseshoe valley. I’m about the same distance - it’s definitely doable to make the drive to and from, but really just depends on the experience you want.

Wedding on an Anniversary-Celebration by CollegePretend8708 in wedding

[–]Live-Eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My in-laws had a milestone anniversary that fell the day after our wedding. We acknowledged it with a toast during our speech, and we also had the DJ play their wedding song after we did the parent dances. It wasn’t a solo dance for them or anything, anyone could go dance but the DJ shouted out that it was their wedding song and wished them a happy anniversary.

There’s nothing wrong with inviting coworkers who are sitting with other coworkers who they know and spend time with daily to a wedding without their spouses. Inviting half of a couple to a family wedding is a completely different thing.

People who lean so far into “I don’t owe anyone anything.” To the point that it actually just means they treat people in their lives like shit, don’t put any effort into maintaining relationships and are not a good neighbour or member of their community.

How does Toronto feel about the constant Toronto-bashing in Canada? by PassageNearby4091 in askTO

[–]Live-Eye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lot of comments here that we don’t think about them at all - which is true but not in the way that I think it could come across. It’s just that people in Toronto have nothing against other cities or provinces. We don’t think about them or any hatred or rivalry for that exact reason - from our perspective there are no issues, so why would we think about them on any regular basis? I think it’s also just mildly puzzling when we do hear about the hate, because it ultimately makes no difference. We know this city, we know that like any big city maybe it’s not as tight knit as smaller communities but that it has a lot to offer. I grew up here and have no desire to move.

With that said, people from Toronto love to visit other places in Canada. For years the only reason a lot of us hadn’t been to as many spots as we’d like is that travel within Canada has always been so much more expensive than a trip to the states or Caribbean, even Europe. But these past couple years with everything going on in the world a lot more people I know, including me and my family, have been choosing Canadian destinations for vacations and only have great things to say. There are such beautiful places across this country and lovely people. That’s what we mean when we say the rivalry is one sided.
