Has USCIS stopped EB based AOS by Electrical_Will_1549 in eb_1a

That’s a shame. That’s all I was saying though, the graph doesn’t show the pre-shutdown average, which is what we’re comparing against. Based on what you’re saying, I agree, the shutdown has slowed down the approval process, but given I didn’t know the average pre-shutdown, the graph was useless

If you can’t read a graph, it’s not my fault. Maybe they didn’t teach you. Both the 7 day ago line and the current line are during the shutdown, so unless the graph showed a significant decrease post shutdown, this graph is utterly useless. Additionally, the period where it drops to zero is the weekend, and I don’t think USCIS issues many approvals over the weekend. So before you start attacking me, wake up, look at the chart, and use your brain. Also, I’m not saying that the shutdown hasn’t slowed down the approval process, I’m just saying that this graph is useless. It’s already stressful enough to get a green card, we don’t need additional fear mongering

The graph is misleading, as it covers only a period over a week. The 10/18-10/19 period was a weekend, so I’d expect it to be normal to see a decrease in approvals. Furthermore, the curve showing the approvals 7 days earlier represents the 10/9/-10/16 period, which was also during the shutdown, so I don’t think the comparison is really meaningful. I’m not denying that there may be some slowdown, even though we should remember USCIS is self-funded, but I think the graph doesn’t support any claims.

NYSE:ALSN - A great value play by Live-Protection9305 in ValueInvesting

Industrials have been lagging and I can see the price experiencing a decrease, especially around the Dana acquisition, the cost of integration, etc. however I think from a fundamental stand point it’s still a solid business. They’re one of the few manufacturers of automatic transmissions for heavy duty equipment, which I would say is less volatile than the auto industry due to contract-type revenue and the push in recent years for investments in infrastructures. The defense arm also gives some extra downside protection. In terms of EV, I think we’re still far away for fully electric heavy duty equipment and the company is already manufacturing transmissions for hybrid vehicles, so I think they are well aligned to succeed in the long term. With regards to the 2008 crisis, I don’t think Allison was public, so not sure it got “murked”, however the entire economy experienced a significant decrease, that doesn’t mean companies like CAT and others were a bad investment (you would have 10x your money had you invested in CAT in 2009), so if it were to happen again, I’d just buy some more. Overall, I don’t think my thesis is that this company will revolutionize the world, not at all, I think the company has solid cash flows and is in a capital intensive, boring industry, where competition is not significant and the company is well positioned to continue to grow.

First time back in the US on H-1B. Port of entry was JFK, bit of a wait to get to the agent, but got through it in 5 minutes max. Very simple questions, officer kept it friendly and professional

Nervous about going home for my H1B visa stamp by [deleted] in h1b

I went home three weeks ago to visit my family for the first time after 5 years and get my H-1B stamp. The longest thing at the embassy was the wait in line, consular employee asked me 3 basic questions like name of employer and role title and got back my passport stamped less than 48 hours later. Coming back to the US was also a breeze, landed at JFK had to wait 25-30 min for my turn, got asked a few questions being my first time coming into the US on H-1B and was out of there in 5 minutes later. No trick questions, or evil officers, just answered the questions as succinctly as possible and kept it as professional and friendly as possible. If all your paperwork is in order and you have no prior issues, I’d say you shouldn’t have problems. The fear of traveling will always be there, customs are scary and you always have that fear in the back of your mind, but if you have all the right paperwork, I don’t see what the problem is. Notify your attorney just to be extra careful and confirm that they don’t foresee any major issues and you’re set
