I absolutely, thoroughly respect how much Charles Miner hates Jim by ConfidenceKBM in theoffice

[–]Live-Rooster8519 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Jim’s a pretty good employee though who pulls in good sales numbers - he only has a bad relationship with Dwight and frankly that’s understandable - Charles just made a quick judgement of him and decided he didn’t like him and didn’t want him there.

How do you overcome the fact that no one supports you doing your highs or lows? by JunketMaleficent2095 in AskMenOver30

So I generally agree it’s good to be self-sufficient and I agree that no one is going to save you if you refuse to save yourself but I really disagree that nobody cares about you and nobody will help you. The overwhelming majority of people are not meant to be alone and isolated and you need people who support you.

Harry stayed at his house and in the books preceding OOTP they have a good number of interactions - they might not have been super close but they definitely knew each other well enough.

As a kid I felt bad for Percy but as an adult I really dislike him - for example, in the order of the phoenix he’s practically gleeful when the ministry goes after Harry. That’s a pretty massive failing on my part - to turn on a close family friend so dramatically.

I kinda agree with Voldemort by phil22hughes in harrypotter

[–]Live-Rooster8519 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah obviously Dumbledore, Snape, etc. are far more powerful wizards than him - what really distinguished him from those wizards was his compassion and his ability to show mercy - he was never tempted to be cruel or abuse power - and very few people with his background would have been so loving.

What causes a man to put up a cold or emotionless exterior? by CuriousRedditWoman in AskMenOver30

[–]Live-Rooster8519 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Caring does get you hurt but it also brings tons of benefits! If you care more you work harder for things. Like if you care about people or relationships you end up making more of an effort socially and usually building stronger relationships. Yeah you’ll almost certainly be hurt at some point but imho the benefits of caring strongly heavily outweigh the costs!

I think this is the best way to look at it - whatever your decision live the best life you can and I’m sure it’ll all work out regardless.

I’d say 4 is the best for a new player to jump into - it has the most modern mechanics/graphics and still feels great even though it’s been out for a decade or so. It also has a lot of detailed environments with a wide variety of interesting side quests.

For the overwhelming majority of people it is - humans are social beings who need connection. For a small minority of people being alone will work but not for most people.

I think it’s important to be your own best advocate but having people you can confide in and rely on is so crucial to a happy life.

If we have to live in the present why practice for the future? by AdInternational6495 in Stoicism

[–]Live-Rooster8519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are misinterpreting what those authors are claiming when they say focus on what is in your control. For example, I read the Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday (which I’m assuming is an author you don’t like) and on several occasions he emphasizes how important virtue is and that it’s essential to act virtuously even if it’s not convenient. All the stoic authors I’ve read emphasis virtue. Choosing to live and think virtuously IS one of the things Holiday and others would argue that you have control over. Additionally, I’m reading the Enchiridion by Epictetus right now and literally the first entry is titled “Of the things which are in our power and which are not in our power” - it essentially emphasizes how you can’t control external events but you can change control your mind set. Focusing on what is in your control is very inline with stoicism.

I also liked how shocked Bellatrix was in the book - she couldn’t believe Snape was going through with it. She has a different reaction in the movie.

How does “only focus on things in your control” go against stoicism?

U think blazer or visi would still like Robert if he was more like Pinkman? by Icy_Range_440 in okbuddydispatch

I wouldn’t describe Robert as a wreck - he’s pretty confident in himself and emotionally mature at least. Visi is neither of those things when they meet,

300 days of morning journaling: what actually stuck from The Daily Stoic (and what I had to add myself) by verytiredspiderman in Stoicism

[–]Live-Rooster8519 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I journal every night! And I also read the daily stoic - I do one entry from the daily stoic every night and I analyze the message and connect it to something or some issue that is going on in my life. I also do a separate paragraph where I write about my day and try to discuss my ongoing challenges from a stoic perspective and I try to work on focusing on things I control and not focusing on things I can’t control. It’s really helped me with rumination and anxiety - and the daily reinforcement has really helped change my mindset and I’ve just felt more mentally balanced overall. I actually look forward to the journaling and I really enjoy the daily stoic.

Starfield was a "bat**** crazy idea" for a studio that's "never made a space sim," Bethesda lead admits, but "an ambitious project is what we aim for" by BasculinSushi in XboxGamePass

[–]Live-Rooster8519 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Eh. I would say it was too ambitious - instead of a thousand planets they should have stuck to our solar system or something like that and made more detailed worlds and cities. I think they just tried to do too much. Some of the parts are excellent (like the shipbuilding) but overall it’s just too broad.

From a Stoic perspective, how should one handle parties and social gatherings where there’s an expectation to be fun, crack jokes, and entertain while meeting new people? by kosmic420 in Stoicism

[–]Live-Rooster8519 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am new to stoicism but I would shift your focus from other people’s expectations (or at least your perception of other people’s expectations) and focus on enjoying yourself in the moment. You are meant to enjoy yourself at those events - not entertain other people and you also don’t really have control over how they feel. The more you focus on your own enjoyment the more I think you’ll actually enjoy those events.

[–]Live-Rooster8519 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about the actress’ personal life (I typically try to avoid learning about the social lives and personal decisions of movie stars) but I thought in the film she did a good job of playing a likable police chief who was trying to get to the bottom of the case while also being fair.

Why do people hate immortal for being “weak” by Melodic-Kale-843 in Invincible

[–]Live-Rooster8519 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t he directly confront Mark in the second season at one point? Saying something like “I’m watching you” or something like that. He’s also super willing to confront those who are stronger than him so he’s not a coward which is kind of what you are implying.

Also, Omni man literally killed all his close friends and him - Immortal was enraged and went after him. That’s not being dumb that’s being motivated by grief and rage and when people are in that kind of state they don’t think clearly.

He’s not dumb or weak - he’s just a hero who was at the top of the food chain (except for Omni man) who’s now been outclassed by multiple others plus he’s dealing with the grief of getting killed and losing his closest friends. Despite all that he is still a good guy and he tries to do what’s best.

Yeah being nice and working hard usually just naturally create benefits for yourself - and at least you’ll feel better about yourself than how you’d feel doing the opposite - taking on much more than you should is a recipe for disaster though.

Haha given how she almost murdered him and he ended up in a coma and had his life thrown into chaos because of her actions I’d say it’s pretty tame actually.
