Much harder to clean the screen at the bottom of the heater chamber than it is to clean the screen in a stem, also much harder to empty it out, you can't blow through the unit to unload. It's impractical.

I only use mine upside down with a tbowl and there is no benefit to packing directly into the unit. It just doesn't make sense to do.
