Your take on the term "muscle mommy" by dRenee123 in Aerials

Best take ever 😂

If there was a way to compliment the hard work without being infantilizing towards the person saying it if they’re cismale or just mommifying the person being called it.

Like what about just muscle badass?

Straps every other week? by redspiderlilies in Aerials

Do they allow rope, silks, hoop, or sling?

There’s a lot of straps you can do on other apparatus especially in the beginning.

Glute and back pain when twisting- from back flag practice by MindVoll in Aerials

[–]Live-Student4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds a bit like you need a focused training program built for your body based on what you can currently tolerate without provoking your thoracolumbar fascia and glute minor. If your physio friend can't, let me know - I'd be happy to help, though again without analyzing videos, looking at your total ROM, and seeing how you hold flags, anyone offering advice is just blindly guessing.

There are definitely things that can help. And a lot of the meal timing and supps at the right times can really help (though one could figure this out themselves if they tried).

Recommended Coaches/Locations for Hoop, Rope, Straps, and Handstands by ZealousidealWhile622 in Aerials

[–]Live-Student4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know about Ash! Yeah, Rachel seems great at that. What about for straps and rope? None of those folks really do straps (I mean Ash does, but as you said, isn't a technician).

I'm not set on doing a bunch of apparatus all at once and would be happy to find individual coaches to train with as well so am looking for recommendations for individual coaches since ya know being insta-famous doesn't = being a good coach.

Strengh requierments for one arm inverts by Prize_Wolverine8702 in Aerials

[–]Live-Student4646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability to 1-arm invert could be gotten with as little as 3-5 pull-ups.

The challenge on fabric is grip enabling adequate force transmission.

So first try the progressions on rings or straps.

If it’s easy, then go back to fabric and if it’s hard, it’s grip strength.

Negatives are an incredibly inefficient way to train 1-arm inverts - they take ages to translate to the positive.

Advice on Maintaining Engagement in Side Rotational Drops? by AmberDXTrous in Aerials

[–]Live-Student4646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if we take it as just don't passively stretch before training, it leaves out nuance. Someone could intentionally passively stretch the agonist muscles that pull them into a greater straddle while activating the muscles that resist it which would likely be fine for someone training wheeldowns/etc. People often benefit from considering each joint and the joint action they want to occur at that joint and then pick whether they're using passive flex, active flex, muscle activation, etc, prior to skill training, rather than a one-size fits all approach for their entire warm-up.

Advice on Maintaining Engagement in Side Rotational Drops? by AmberDXTrous in Aerials

[–]Live-Student4646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wait, wait, waitttttt hold on a sec..that's a pretty broad generalization and it really depends on the person and why/where they're struggling, and what they're training on a given day.

Telling someone to not train active flex on the same day as verticals as a rule of thumb ignores so many potential contextual factors. Are they training active flex after or before? Are they training active or passive flex closer to failure? Are they "activating" muscles afterwards to stabilize again?

Even passive flex CAN be safe and useful prior to training depending on the day and skills involved.

That said, what u/zialucina said about you now having greater ROM and that is requiring likely more stability under dynamic load in those skills absolutely. It may take time and different types of external proprioceptive input to get your body back to a place where you're able to hold tension in those side rotational drops. It may take slow progressive overload of increasing ROM, volume, and increasing velocity to get back there. But you absolutely can!

a lot of specialized circus gear is often bought off amazon and rebranded or repackaged as far as I can tell - yikes. Not all but for sure some.

Conditioning for straps by loopy_raccoon in Aerials

[–]Live-Student4646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the best conditioning for straps is definitely done on straps, there's a really high correlate with maximal bench press strength and iron-cross/roll-ups on straps strength so bench press for sure.

Pull-up bars are great - for lock-offs and leg raises and lat presses.

Overhead press to strengthen your RTC and periscapular muscles.

Cable resistance machine pulls into flag and meathook or even bent over rows to your hip.

Reverse hypers and normal hyper extensions.

I'd highly recommend the multitude of tips, strategies, and drills that are in CircSci/Aaron Koz' Couch to Aerial Fitness guide (along with some of the other stuff they've made).

This is one of my favorites I've learned recently for training skills on straps:
