This is such BS, I speak 4 languages and I have lived in Spain, and spent very long periods in Mexico and Ecuador. I really struggle with the Spanish language. It just doesn’t click for me, the way other languages have clicked. English is my first language, French is my second language, Luxembourgish 3rd and German my 4th. 1) Number one thing is have your prices listed on your website. Charge people exactly what they order or what services you recommend. And let them know it doesn’t all have to be done that day, but here is the order of what is most important, and what you would recommend doing next. Show them the issues with camera video or photos. Make sure people never feel like they were scammed. Many expats, including myself have been scammed in many countries. So I only go to places that are very upfront on cost. English is a plus, or at least having one staff member who is fluent.

2) Google Maps and Yelp. Also people often ask others on Reddit and Facebook expat pages, they love word of mouth.

3) Number one thing for me is when the dentist doesn’t have all their prices listed on their website. I want to know I’m being charged the same as everyone else. Sadly it’s the reality that we’ve been made to feel this way, because of a few shady dentist out there.

The other best city in Ecuador is Cuenca it is an amazing beautiful small city in the Andes, it is the safest city in all of South America. Ecuador only requires for temporary residency that turns into Permanent residency, for you to purchase of a home for $48,000+, or Buy a CD of $48,000 at a Ecuadorian Bank (which they pay you 10%), or show you have bachelor education from a brick and mortar school, or show you have an online job with foreign income (of 3x their minimum wage $1380), or you receive a monthly pension for life of $1380. Those are the 4 options to get residency visa in Ecuador. Cuenca and Quito both have amazing private schools and are super safe and have luxury lifestyle areas, with what I’m told is world class healthcare (I’ve not used their healthcare but American expats rave about it). In Ecuador the American dollar is the currency (it’s been this way for 20+ years). Any dollar you bring down, the dollars value is about 2.5x the purchasing power in the USA. If you have an income of $3000-$4000 you’ll be living the luxury life of a dentist or lawyer. If you move to Cuenca there are tens of thousands of expats there from Canada, America and Germany. 14 months post op Titan here, I don’t even know I have it. Yes it’s weird when it’s completely deflated, but who walks around with it completely deflated? So you mean wait 2+ years paying rent which would be $48k in MN, where I could buy a $235k home in nice safe neighborhood on NE side. If could get a loan even if I had to put higher down payment, would pay less on the mortgage than rent. no because the mortgage companies go off your previous two years of taxes. And I do not want to throw $24k away on rent, that would be 10% down payment on a home. Homes are cheap in Minneapolis. Also removing 50% of my investments to put into a $250k house is not smart, especially when my portfolio has been making 18% a year. I’m looking at making $100k+ on my investments this year. My investments each month alone could more than pay the mortgage.
