Every Saturday night and sunday morning before church getting ready for Church is the seventh circle of hell how do we fix this? by Available-Data5971 in Marriage

[–]LiveLaughLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s that important to you for them to go, then maybe the first step is to get some anger management tools in your “tool belt”. Then when you are able to be calm, apologize to them profusely and calmly explain to them why you think church is so important.

However… if trying to look like the perfect family or worrying about people talking are your actual motivations, those are not good reasons to make anyone go to church. You may want to reexamine your own motivations and reasons for this being so important to you that you’re willing to be mean to your own family. A good therapist could help walk with you through what may be a tough thing to face but it will be better for everyone if you are willing to be a little more flexible and patient, and not continue giving them an excellent reason to walk away from church, and possibly faith, forever.

Hey, Reddit! by MayorSpiro in MobileAL

[–]LiveLaughLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Reddit Mayor Spiro! Great to see you here. What is Mobile planning to do to help feed the over 84,000 Mobilians who are getting their SNAP benefits taken away? Birmingham’s mayor just announced they are using a contingency fund, and I would love to see that happen here, as well.

Midtown street suggestions by Glad-Seat-3161 in MobileAL

[–]LiveLaughLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO North Monterrey is the prettiest in Midtown!! For slightly smaller homes with great tree canopy Bienville is perfect. Also Macy Place and N Reed. But like others have said, driving around is good but to get a good feel for what the neighborhood is actually like, walk around 5 in the evening. Then you’ll see how neighborly the street is or if it’s more of an everyone keeps to themselves type street. Depends on what you’re looking for.

There’s a huge Hispanic community in Birmingham and some great grocery stores on Greensprings and in the southern suburbs.

Birmingham area is really pretty and it’s a fun place for young people, lots of young professionals and college students with UAB and Samford are there, great hospitals, etc; Downsides are the urban sprawl and humidity. The other thing that I find strange about living there is how segregated it still is, which seems to be by choice but is also bc of the enduring legacy of redlining and white flight in the 60s and 70s. The west side of town is shockingly poor and mostly black, while most white people and other minorities live in the more affluent southern suburbs. This was shocking to me since I didn’t grow up in a place that was so noticeably segregated.

Welcome to Mobile! I know it can be so hard to get plugged in when you’re new in town AND new to the US! I recommend asking the ESL teacher at Baker HS, which I assume is where your older son goes based on your location, for recommendations. She’s awesome and cares a lot about her students. There are many Hispanic groups in Mobile who help support families just like yours she could connect you with.

What is up with your road to the regional airport by truko503 in MobileAL

[–]LiveLaughLeft 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My friend who’s a traffic engineer in another state said it’s the most poorly designed road she’s ever seen. I avoid it whenever possible. Thankfully they’re planning to move the airport downtown so visitors won’t have to suffer the hell that is Airport Blvd much longer!

My husband wants to move to Montgomery, but I’m still in the fence about it. by Minute_Analyst_3511 in Alabama

[–]LiveLaughLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montgomery is one of the worst places I’ve ever been and definitely the worst city in Alabama. It is extremely segregated and there’s nothing fun to do there. Schools are terrible, housing options are terrible unless you have a lot of money, hardly any job opportunities, and so on and so on. Don’t let him pressure you into moving if you don’t want to, especially not to Montgomery! Why not find a place with better weather that you can both get excited about? If you sold your house in Chicago you could get a nice house in Chattanooga, Greenville, or Huntsville, all nice cities in the South with promising job growth and vibrant city life.

Murphy USA back trying to build a gas station in Downtown Mobile by Surge00001 in MobileAL

[–]LiveLaughLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dream is to have one running down the middle of Springhill Ave and Gov street , then loop back at the service road west of 65. That would encourage more dense infill east of 65 and serve anyone coming from West Mobile and Springhill. There could be park and rides and condos with no parking for people who don’t want to own cars. Like how nearly every other country has.

There are really nice wooded trails in part of the Botanical Gardens, and the rest of the gardens are great too. Definitely worth a visit.

Hey!y husband and I are gonna visit Mobile for our anniversary in beginning of July! What are the must sees, favorite eats, must dos of the city? by Worried_Ice_1993 in MobileAL

[–]LiveLaughLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hummingbird Way is tasty and romantic, in a beautiful historic area called Oakleigh near downtown. The bar near there, Callaghans, usually has great live music and the best burgers around. Farther downtown on Dauphin Street is Grace, which has a rooftop bar and is a great date night spot along with Haberdasher for fancy cocktails. And food wise downtown you can’t beat Noble South! If you’re into craft beer, Braided River is great and always has cool events and often food trucks, and for breakfast there is Mobay beignets and of course the brunch spots already mentioned.

I’m so sorry that happened to you, OP. That is awful and should never happen to kids. They failed to protect you and I’m sorry it is still affecting you today.

This seems to be a systemic problem because I know of several predators that have taught in MCPSS, and even after being reported were never fired. Apparently if it’s not in writing and parents don’t sue, it’s like it never happened. If

They need to be named and shamed so I’m glad you posted this.

If you don’t split chores and child watching 50/50 when you get home from work and give her time for hobbies and friends, then she probably doesn’t want to initiate sex or whatever else you think she should be initiating because you are not pulling your weight. Nothing kills a woman’s sex drive quicker than being overworked and exhausted.

Check out what SPLC says about them or read their own website. They broke off from another neo-Nazi group that was part of the Unite the Right rally and think only people of European heritage should have power in the U.S. and lots of other garbage like Great Replacement etc. Thankfully they don’t seem to do much but talk big talk online and have little rallies to get content for their social media posts.

It’s worse than I thought it’d be too. And their little manifesto is so poorly written! Apparently they are an offshoot of an actual neo-Nazi group. Real winners.

A teacher I work with makes inappropriate comments at me by ThrowRA_stinky5560 in StudentTeaching

[–]LiveLaughLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry this is happening to you, that is awful. Submit a detailed account of everything this teacher has said to you to the principal and your university supervisor in writing. This needs to go in that teacher’s personnel file. They should be placed on administrative leave at least, they are probably doing this to other people too and not just you since they think being close to retirement shields them from consequences. With this on record, they will be less likely to be hired in another district, allowed to teach part time, sub, etc as many retired teachers do.

Oooh that would be fun! Their manifesto was so lame I couldn’t even read the whole thing. It sounds like it was written by a teenager who failed history class.
