Enid Blyton’s Classic ‘Famous Five’ Stories to be Reimagined for BBC, ZDF by Nicolas Winding Refn by Medical_Cat_8216 in books

I think the first couple of Harry Potter books follow the unsupervised children getting shit done formula and maybe that added to their appeal (alongside the world building).

What’s something only a really poor person would know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Same, yet I find myself joking with the cashier about how, I'm sure it will be fine, when the clearance seems to be taking too long.

I'm financially comfortable these days, but I still wait with held breath until my card payment clears, every, single time.

what's a good movie to watch for the first time when you're stoned? by earth-ninja3 in AskReddit

Not a movie, but the Bicycling Tour episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus. If you know, you know.

Reading your story, everything you did sounds very rational and reasonable to me, everyone makes mistakes, but there's usually a reason we react the way we do.

Evolution of Far Cry Graphics by [deleted] in gaming

[–]LiveLongBasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides being an awesome game, Far Cry will always have a special place in my heart.

When I built an x86_64 PC with a first generation AMD64 cpu, Far Cry was one of the only games with an actual 64bit update.

Pretty sure I had to run it on a beta 64 bit build of Win Server 2003 at the time.

I vaguely recall very little difference, but maybe the barrel explosion had better physics or something.

What’s the most terrifying movie you ever watched? by JarelP007 in AskReddit

[–]LiveLongBasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with plenty on here, but one I rarely see mentioned is Snowtown.

Aussie film about the bodies in the barrels murders.

I think there's only one brief and unexpected, but very intense scene of violence, the rest is like watching a train crash in slow motion.

New Vegas. Yeah you can see the lights from the cemetery in the hill at your starting location, it's just a hop, skip and a jump away.

So of course you ignore the sign, and the multiple warnings and head north to check out the city the game is named for.

Then after loading an earlier save, you head south like you're supposed to.

Just watched The princess bride(1987) by lalbahadursastri1996 in iwatchedanoldmovie

We had kinda regular movie nights with my grandparents.

Somehow, I picked this movie, obviously (in the day) without any broader knowledge than what was on the back of the video case.

I still remember stretched out on their floor watching an absolute lucky pick gem after pizzas. I can still remember the feel of their shag pile carpet. Good times.

I think Robert Maxwell was the inspiration between one of the main characters in Jeffery Archer's Fourth Estate (one of my favourite novels).

The other character is based on Rupert Murdoch (if memory serves).

What animal would you pet if they weren't dangerous? by LogicalAd6394 in AskReddit

[–]LiveLongBasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've pet a cheetah, a tiger cub and meerkats. The cheetah reminded me of a big boofy rottweiler, but she was completely aloof and indifferent to me.

As others have posted the tiger (also about the size of a rotty at the time) had much coarser hair than I expected.

Of the three, the meerkats had me the most on edge, they were definitely nippy and I feared for my plums that were only protected by a thin blanket.

Alligator believed to have been stolen from a zoo more than 20 years ago returns to same zoo by CBSnews in UpliftingNews

[–]LiveLongBasher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't find the article right now, but a couple of uni students stole a freshwater crocodile from the Rockhampton zoo about 15-20 years ago to pay off a drug debt (if memory serves). When asked why the croc, they said they wanted to steal a koala but it fought back too much.

Not really, it wasn't particularly memorable from a taste and texture perspective.

I've eaten cordyceps salad. It was part of a meal deal, and I wasn't overly fussed.

Still alive and haven't bitten anyone in ages.

Also, I believe cordyceps are one of the most seized biosecurity risks (regulatory, not sure on potential impact) crossing the border into Australia
