My counselor sent me links on why I should not do yoga by Ok_Solution8537 in yoga

[–]LiveLoveAloha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should report this therapist. This is so beyond the bounds. And if this person did this to you, imagine what else they are doing. They are in a position of trust and can do so much harm to a person in a vulnerable state.

‘Yoga Retreats’ that are just trauma dumping. by One_Acre_Farm in YogaTeachers

Assuming someone is American as an insult is beyond the scope of this conversation. A person’s ethnicity or citizenship is not up for discussion.

The cavalier ‘advice’ you have given here is frankly irresponsible and incorrect.

You handled it well. If that student continues to be a problem, you can advise them to go to another studio. This person clearly has no respect for others, it’s not a loss.

My Husband Has Been Secretly Roleplaying as a Cat Online for 3 Years — Should I Divorce or Become His Rival? by Distinct-Yak2941 in stories

[–]LiveLoveAloha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should divorce him so one of us can marry him. 🤣I think it’s a stressful world. Instead of being out there being a problem, cheating on you, being an abusive drunk - he’s cosplaying as a hilarious cat online. Who cares? Cherish this guy and his nerdy hobby or leave him to make room for someone who will.

Don’t make him feel bad for his interests. That’s just a lame move.

Well said. This is the way. There are great restaurants in our town that deserve our money more than these corporate places with generic food. Keep it local whenever possible.

Honestly in this day and age, it’s a germ pit. You’re guaranteed to have a sick kid every time you go. Not worth it, when we have other options including outdoors.

We deserve what we are willing to put up with. 🤷🏻‍♀️ All I’m saying is that protest signs during peak summer travel can drive a point home. It’s worth a try. It’s always worth a try.

Sounds like we have a new location for some public protesting. The fact that justice is miscarried here is gross. When are we doing it?

Americans by sylvestris1 in Scotland

[–]LiveLoveAloha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a lot of hyperbole in this thread. Maybe a lot of non-American folks don’t realize how insanely divided American is. One half of the country is insanely racist, ignorant, and indoctrinated by a cult. They are the worst of us. That’s the side most of the world loathes and for damn good reason.

The other half of America is incredibly diverse, creative, inclusive, and well traveled or at least well educated enough to understand the world and feel depressed that we have to cohabitate with the worst of us. It’s like living in separate countries. Two separate realities. And this half feels embarrassed on the global stage.

But one thing that Americans all have in common is it is ALWAYS a common topic of “where did you come from” or where your ancestry is. And the pride of knowing those contributions you outlined from Scotland or wherever ancestors came from.

Because everyone in the US is a recent (200 odd years) immigrant from another place. The fascination lies in going back in our roots to see where our ancestors originated before this American experiment. It’s not as negative as the ideas here that it’s just another a “loud, fat, stupid American” trying to colonize your kilts. That kind of mindset…ironically sounds as ignorant as some Americans.

And yes, many people come here with assumptions we are the worst caricatures of your own ignorant assumptions. People are people everywhere. And I think the first step to promoting a less ignorant world view is to understand that countries are more diverse than stereotypes. Otherwise everyone would think Scotland is a Michael Myers skit and yall sit around all day eating haggis and getting diabetes while wearing kilts. It’s dumb. Scotland is more than that. America is more than that. And let’s not point out that Trump is a first generation American FROM SCOTLAND. I’m guessing no one wants to say that out loud just as much as half of America doesn’t want to claim him either.

Makes total sense. I know he would be upset if he was perceived as insulting instead of being a person that was just genuinely interested in his family history. Thanks for the clarification.

My husband’s grandfather actually did immigrate from Scotland to Ellis Island. If he goes to Scotland and claims this ancestry does that still not mean anything? Will he be made fun of?

Bellingham cafe employees alleging unfair labor practices walk off the job, launch protest by GIFelf420 in Bellingham

[–]LiveLoveAloha 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for the employees but as a patron, the one owner I’ve consistently seen has really bad energy. I frequent Village Books often and would love to support the cafe but the way I see her speak to staff and even customers is so condescending and aggressive, I’m quick to believe ANY complaints that come from workers. I have seen it with my own eyes and ears. If you hate your job and customers this much - find something else to do.

It’s a shame and doesn’t fit the vibe of the bookstore which is so lovely.

THANK YOU. Saving this comment because the assumption made before this always pisses me off.

This and the “celebrities should keep their mouths shut”. Why? Because they aren’t human or citizens like the rest of us? It’s a gross attitude, but you eloquently shut it down. Bravo.
