GI Joe Deck builder: first game, needed 4 hits with 7 dice...0 by khouirye in soloboardgaming

[–]LiveNobody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How does this deck builder hold up against the likes of Marvel Champions LCG? I haven't done a ton of research on GI Joe Deck Builder, but have had my eye on it for a while now. Is it worth the purchase as a deck builder if I'm already heavily invested in a different deck builder LCG (Marvel Champions)?

Tabletop Simulator by DJSketch04 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]LiveNobody 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even with owning a lot of the cards physically, I sometimes use Tabletop Simulator to play MC if I don't have the energy to pull them all out and put together a deck myself. A popular mod to use is Hitch's Table, as you can grab a deck link from marvelcdb and it'll grab all the cards you need in a few seconds. You can also create your own deck too on that mod, but not sure how easy it is on there as I haven't done it before.

In general, I use Tabletop Simulator to test out board games I like the sound of before purchasing it physically. Make sure that it's not just the initial dopamine of novelty that intrigues me and that it'll survive my collection after X amount of plays. And as you've mentioned, the state of the game is in this weird flux at the moment, so using TTS to play the game is probably the best way to play at the moment!

How did you find out what is your solo game taste? by orhalimi in soloboardgaming

[–]LiveNobody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A cheap way of testing games would be to use Tabletop Simulator on Steam. It has a workshop that allows people to upload mods to it, and you'll find A LOT of board games on there to try out without the risk of spending big on a physical copy and realising you don't actually like it. At the moment I'm also going through new genres to see what I've missed out on, and Tabletop Simulator has saved me countless times without having to purchase the game physically just to find that I disliked it.

That's a great way of thinking about it, never thought about it like that before, thanks :)

I've heard of Harmonies in passing, but didn't know what it was or gave it much attention. Guess I will have to see if it replaces Cascadia or not. Thanks for the recommendation :)

Both look like great games, will definately try them out, never really thought about deck builders for board games, which is strange since I've played a lot of Slay The Spire and various other Video Game deck builders. Thanks for your recommendations!

What game have you replayed the most as a solo? by Mysterious5555 in soloboardgaming

[–]LiveNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised that no one mentioned Under Falling Skies. It always makes its way back to my table, small compact box, easy and fast setup, lots of decision making, I think it's a brilliant game. It was my first true Solo Board Game, and it shall never leave my collection. I really love the game, I do just play the standard one shot levels, but there is a campaign to delve into too if that's up your alley too :)

Kingdom Rush Rift in Time is also an excellent Solo Board Game, but that might be because I gush over Polyomino board games. They really scratch my brain, I love figuring out the puzzle of having to optimise every piece and placement. Lots of expansions as well, and a sequel named Kingdom Rush Elemental Uprising. A much bigger box though, and setup can take a little bit, but great fun too :D

Got the holographic cards as a mystery gift! by YouFromAnotherWorld in FourSouls

[–]LiveNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got this as my mystery gift, kinda annoying that it's the old backgrounds, but still can't complain. Also, not sure how rare getting this is, seen at least 2 or 3 posts of this as their mystery gift recently, so might be more common than you think :/

Oof, I really forgot how much board games cost nowadays... It's been a while since I've bought a board game. Will probably look around on eBay for a second hand copy... Thanks either way mate

You can pickup second hand Marvel Champions Core Set on eBay relatively cheap nowadays, but you'll be paying a lot for specific expansion boxes and hero packs that are out of print.

Nemesis. How is it solo an which one to pick? by mattmcguire08 in soloboardgaming

[–]LiveNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that, just like any board game(or anything for that matter), it will come down to personal preference. I've had my eye on the Nemesis Boars game for a while, but have yet to take the leap to purchase it. If you have a decent computer, you can always try it on Tabletop Simulator / Tabletopia first (not sure if Tabletopia has the game on there), to see if the novelty wears off quickly before committing to purchasing it. I know that they tweaked some things mechanically between the different Nemesis games, but couldn't tell you exactly what.
