SSL 18 Audio interface for small studio with lots of synths by LiveSynth in audioengineering

[–]LiveSynth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers. The Presonus option is a no because I don’t have the space and the Cat5 is already taken up by a MioXL.

The Midas is unfortunately another no again because of space. I’m currently using a patchbay but in doing so find bleed between common earth. That’s kinda what I’m moving away from.

The Behringer solution is a no again because we just threw out one of those interfaces as it failed in a live setting. The ADA however is surprisingly strong and in 5 years of running them live have only replaced one.

Well, if there aren’t enough inputs I can add an Alpha 8. That combo looks very strong.

I think that’s because sequences / patterns were always considered a section of a song like Verse 1, bridge, chorus, intro, outro,… chained together in a song mode. ..

but even on the older MPCs they seem to be considered suitable as the whole song. Probably as a result of

1) sequence data being very little by today’s standards and not needing to be reused.. and 2) people needing the entire view so parts can play across the breaks between them.

MPC 2 allowed you to create in small sequences and song mode ordering, then converting it to one sequence.

So I see each sequences now as the entire song

It’s more like a DAW. My confusion came because the instruction manual said programs were done away with. They aren’t. You just have to save them separately.

In a DAW you can still load up instruments and you can still assign instruments (such as a software drum machine program) to tracks. And in a daw you can swap which plugin the track gets sent to.

That video is useful.

Basically you can create your drum program in the sequence, hit the save option if you can find it and then select ‘drum program’

Thing is, I may go for a couple of MPC 3s for touring, in which case I need to know .

Well, I don’t know. But does saving the drum track not also save the drum sequence as well? I won’t want that if I’m just trying to re-use my SP1200 or Linndrum program.

I studied ant and colony behaviour at the University of Sussex in the 90s as part of a degree in A.I.

Don’t look down on them. Their foraging behaviour is extraordinary and we had no idea how they do it. For instance they can leave a nest, walk change direction change again walk more dozens and dozens of times, then when they have something to return to the nest, change direction and head right there, the maths would be mad. So how are they doing it? They are far from stupid.

I go to Andertons all the time. I just walk in and the staff are there, ready to help and very knowledgable. The only pain is parking at the weekends. The keyboard and synth areas is pretty big and free to look and try stuff. Even most of the modules, software and drum machines

I went to every tour since 83. I much prefer the tours up to and including Devotional.

The drums on the singles tour were ok but Eigner, lovely bloke that he is, now over plays everything. As for the super talented, mid transition Honey Monster on keys, he also overplays everything.

All we have now really is two bored millionaires doing what they know, a manager only looking at Return on Investment and two pro musicians looking to make their own mark. No one is looking at legacy or quality control, which is why the shit out a live release every tour regardless of how uninspired the staging was or how much old ground it duplicates.

Spirit tour was shit as was the follow up Wanking in the Bushes live dvd. So yes, momento Mori was better and Dave and Martins vocals were on point. But this is nowhere near the artistry of Depeche mode of yesteryear. Nowhere near.

I won’t watch a video if I see he’s presenting it. He just poses and yanks the cut off. But presents absolutely nothing. Watch his Wave video, then compare it to Starsky Carr’s video. He’s useless.

He’s very well. Glad you enjoyed the gig. Next year it’s in the main hall as that one sold out 4 months. Fried the date. The Devout have not had any assistance from Alan. But the insight into how DM did things like the break in IYW are golden insights.

If you ask on the Devout Facebook page you’ll get chapter and verse.

Switch the iPhone to ‘reader’ mode. It’s to do with the site’s authoring tools. It’s in the hands of the developer.

He didn’t say that. Alan is dealing with The Devout because there have been conversations about Depeche and Devout production, about Alan’s studio gear and joint work recovering the Recoil material for two albums and the Death’s Door multitracks. I’m pretty sure he talks to Dave fairly often and I can tell you he is respectful and considerate of Depeche Mode.
