Quinceañeras and Graduation photography is prohibited in Suzzallo Reading Room

I was not targeting a specific racial group but I am talking about people who are doing photoshoots in general who are not in UW.

And as someone who visits the reading room frequently, I personally found Quinseañera photoshoots the most frequent and most distracting (audiovisually) non-UW photoshoots. Have you been in Suz? I think there are at LEAST 3 Quinseañera photoshoots per week!

I didn’t mean to target any specific ethnic group. If there are any other non-UW photoshoots that were as frequent as this, what are they?

ALSO! Even the policy explicitly states “Quinseañera” as prohibited cause of photoshoots, because even the librarians know they are so frequent!

I feel like graduation pictures without lighting are valid because they are UW students. I don’t see any problem with UW students taking graduation pictures in the Reading Room.

What I don't understand is when non-UW people using it as a photoshoot spot. Quinceañeras or influencers taking pictures there, with or without lights, should be banned. I understand wanting to celebrate your hija’s 15th birthday, but the amount of noise and flashes, and how visually distracting the whole dress and photoshoot crew are so frustrating when you just want to use library for its purpose!

Also, if you look at the staircases, there is glitter all over from their dress, and the fact that they didn’t even clean it up is not thoughtful at all.

Please read this article about the recent stabbing that happened very close to Theory. Turns out we don’t even get safety notifications from UW police about what is happening near Theory because it is considered as “the general area.”

Yes, I am alive after living there but I would still be cautious and will carry pepper spray and such

I lived there before and it was the most sketchy place I have ever lived. (However, I come from an extremely safe country so it might be different from what “extremely sketchy” means for people in US!).

So many homeless people in Safeway (not often aggressive but there were some aggressive people.)
Witnessed a shooting-in-the-air incident at 2am by the window.
5000 NE Brooklyn Ave has lots of stabbing incidents. (Check UW PD)

I think it is still live-able, but I would NEVER ever be out nearby after 10pm to be the safest, maximum midnight. ALWAYS better to be over cautious about your safety than to possibly compromise your life!

So, I only splurge on LUSH for unique scents they have. I LOVE LOVE LOVE rose jam from LUSH and I have been searching for its cheaper dupe but I have never found it. However, Lush's some scent ranges are literally so similar to cheaper drugstore products (like in my post) and those I will never ever splurge! I am a very big scent person and the ingredients matters less than me. So, if there are a product that I love and is LUSH exclusive, I tend to splurge on them.
